Haters gonna hate

I stuck to my promise of not buying Heart Gold if they ruined the music. They did (e.g. notes missing from Goldenrod City, and the Gameboy music they put in isn't actually the original sound).

My brother bought it last week however. I was trying to persuade him not to, and haven't played it.

If you're going to deny yourself a game based on story and music, then so be it.  I'm not you but I personally think it's foolish to count a game out just because of that.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Holy crap, this game has video chat?

I didn't mean story really. I meant gameplay mechanics and content. Imagine if every Final Fantasy was FF1 with better graphics, characters renamed and the world laid out differently. That would be OK for the first few times, but for the fifth time in a row...

But video game music is more important to me than the games itself, since I don't listen to any music with words in and video game music is therefore the only music I can buy or listen to.

I agree it's only affecting me and no one else if I choose not to.

@Soleron

Did you miss the part about a trainer that wants to separate people and Pokémon? Or High Link Or Global Link?

And I can think of further additions. Contests, breeding, Secret Bases, berries, etc.

Yes. That's not part of the main story.

I tend not to use extra modes like that. Or online multiplayer, because I don't know the people I'm playing with. It interests some people, but I buy Pokemon games for the main story progression only.

Then why point out that something new isn't part of the main story?

Your words were: "The non-battle portions of the game has hardly changed since Red/Blue". That is not true many things have been added since the first generation, just because you do not utilize them doesn't mean they do no exist.

As for gameplay mechanics: holding items, steel and dark types, abilities, double-battles, weather conditions, changing how attack damage is calculated based on the attack itself instead of its type, triple battles, etc.

Interesting information.

It almost sounds like there is no evil team this time just one guy? I'm sure that's not right but I think it's about time they ditched the 'evil' team plot. Really hopeful this is the first game to make big changes to the plot.

Then why point out that something new isn't part of the main story? By 'story' I mean the compulsory progression of the game from switching it on to the Credits. Which is always exactly the same with the names changed and the towns laid out differently.

Your words were: "The non-battle portions of the game has hardly changed since Red/Blue". That is not true many things have been added since the first generation, just because you do not utilize them doesn't mean they do no exist. OK. But it just seems incredibly lazy to keep the conventions I listed all in for all five games. It means there is no surprise in the progression. I KNOW before buying it that I'll turn it on and I'll be in a house with my 'mom' and a Pokemon professor named after a tree will offer me 3 starters then I'll travel between towns and routes of increasing number, occasionally going through a cave where I need HM Flash and Strength, meeting my rival and an evil team several times, face eight gyms in various types, and go through Victory Road after which I will face four major battles then go though the Hall of Fame. Are any other big series that predictable? Even Kirby manages to keep the progression a surprise.

As for gameplay mechanics: holding items, steel and dark types, abilities, double-battles, weather conditions, changing how attack damage is calculated based on the attack itself instead of its type, triple battles, etc. Are in battles. Yes. I have absolutely no complaints about the battle system and how it has improved over the games.

Here's a funny thought: N's cause seems to be almost noble. Liberating PKMN from trainers that regard their PKMN as little more than housepets/beasts-of-burden/food sources/means-to-an-end seems to be a very honorable goal, at least on the surface. The only thing that could (and probably will) bring dishonor to his cause is the means by which he intends to achieve his ends. Of course, I have gone into further detail regarding this in another thread that I made. I'm not gonna provide a link because that particular thread seems to be dying a slow death, and I have every intention of letting nature run its course. If someone else would provide a link to it, however, I wouldn't mind.

Sort of off topic, but I was just thinking, it's really amazing how much Japan has changed over the last 100 years. The entire country used to be so...different than they are now.

I'm not really all that interested in getting Black/White. I want a change in the story set up and progression of the game before I gain my interest back.
