correct me if I am wrong
stop me if I am bias
I love a good civilised debate (but only if we can learn something).

Its in dare. and its from the telegraph and that is a serious news outlet and dont do bull stories

I see what the articles states, but that gives no indication as to where those numbers come from or what it actually counts.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

showcasing a game on a show that caters to an audience that are interested in the topic - makes no difference? yeah ok Kowen, I see the logic there, pretty smart and clever of ya ;)

btw why do anyone market or advertise anything? Going by his definition it's a waste of money and his customers will agree

What!?    So now its a "showcase" on Top Gear?  if they even mention it it wont be a one hour special going into detail...lol

They might have a bit of fun with it for a 3 or 4 minutes.. tops!   and I maintain that the demographic of top gear (in the UK at any rate is very diverse and not at all just young adult males, its a light entertainment program now pretty much)

Anyway I shall leave it now.. its clear that saying anything to detract (however tenuous) from the holy grail of gaming is not allowed on this forum.

No one sensible is suggesting it'll be an hour-long feature rather than a quick piece for a few minutes. However you cut it, though, a few minutes of primetime is still going to be a boon for UK sales - especially as Clarkson and co. will doubtless wax lyrical about it.

Your attempt at playing up the entertainment value of the programme, and subsequently the diversity of the audience is also a waste of time; the show is still predominantly watched by males, and the lion's share of that is the 18-35 age range that is so congruous with the PS3's install base.

You should also check up the definition of 'tenuous', since you basically just described your contributions in this thread as "having little substance". How embarrassing.

Jesus Christ... This thread turned into an un-needed shitstorm...

The 350 Million figure comes from what Clarkson himself said on the latest episode of the show, and a quick Google search of "Top Gear 350 Million Viewers" seemed to confirm it.

And Top Gear is one of the most watched shows in the world. It has a huge audience of both young and older viewers. A LOT of them (especially the younger part) will be interested in Gaming. To say this isn't true is just stupidity. And IF GT5 gets shown on Top Gear, it will raise awareness of the game. Fact.

This sites community keeps getting worse and worse. Can't even make a simple thread without it going downhill because of sensitive people...

@kowen

"its a leap to think people that watch top gear have an interest in gaming."

Wii. That is all. It's shown that gaming is and can be for everyone in the home. If people watch Top Gear, it's a 99% chance they have an interest in cars. If they have an interest in cars, then GT will appeal to them in some way. Will it appeal to them enough that they will go out and buy it? Maybe not. But it will sure appeal to a whole bunch of people watching it IF it's given a segment of the show.

Do you have even a shred of evidence that 350 million people watch the show? Or are you saying 350 million people have access to BBC? Because those are two very different things to say.

He's saying "it goes out to" 350m. The show dose not have 350m viewers.. I think i read somewhere that they had 10m or so.

It's claimed in the Wikipedia website as having 350million (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_gear) of course, that is just wikipedia and doesn't actually mean it has that many.

"The programme is estimated to have 350 million viewers worldwide.[2]"

It is a popular program though, apparently it's shown in the US on BBC USA.

It's actually really not popular here in America. They thought of making an American version but it flopped because no one watched the pilot or something like that.

Ok I'll stop derailing Carl sorry!

That little #2 links to the source of that figure, you know.  ;)

From Reuters:

Jeremy Clarkson, the gruff and opinionated presenter of Top Gear, a program about cars watched by 350 million people from Finland to Australia, is the subject of an online campaign being waged in the very heart of British government.

And as has been shown earlier in the thread, GT4 managed to get a 10 minute spot on the show in the past.  Given Top Gear's appreciable presence in GT5, between the Test Track, driving with the Stig, and Top Gear specials available  free through Gran Turismo TV, I doubt they wouldn't do something a bit more involved than what they did for GT4.

In the end, GT5 is being heavily tied into a show with a massive following, giving it an advantage no other GT title has had.  Nobody knows how this will impact the success of the game, but it can only be a positive.

Cant you see that people interested in cars just aint interested in car games like wrestling fans aint interested in wrestling games ;)

wow

Kow is really on form today lmao

meaning?  All I am saying is that the appearance, or otherwise, of GT on Top gear is all but irrelevant from a sales perspective.

What do you believe?

How is being advertised to millions of people already interested in cars irrelevant to sales?

You really try hard to find something negative (or at least not positive) to say about anything Sony related.

guess you missed that in your 20 years of watching the show, too bad..and good to hear your leaving the thread :) less downplaying with anecdotal evidence in SOny forums, thank u.

Thanks... simply had to come back on that one - you made it too easy for me.  That was the one and only GT shown on Top gear... I remember it very well actually.

Incidentally... isn't GT4 only the 3rd best selling off the 4 main games?   I now concede it did have an affect on sales... it reduced them

Gran Turismo 4 is the best selling Gran Turismo in Europe. I should think most of Top Gears audience are European.
