I'm Insomniac.

I don't have insomnia, but I do occasionally have trouble falling asleep when I'm stressed or worried. I either do some intense excersize for a bit or read/write to distract myself for a bit until I feel tired enough to fall asleep.

LOL!

I get insomnia pretty regularly, it comes and goes, usually lasts a couple of weeks then the exhaustion just takes me to sleep.

Sometime i can feel tired during the day, but as soon as i get into bed, i'm wide awake.

Few things i do:

- Reading - when i'm struggling to fall asleep i read, it clears your mind and gives you something to concentrate on other than the clock. Plus if it doesn't work, at least you are doing something productive.

- make sure you keep your bed for just 2 things, sleeping and sex. don't sit in bed for too long if you can't sleep, get up and do something. you want your subconscious mind to associate bed as a place to sleep, and not a place to think/stare at the ceiling/clock watch.

- avoid sleeping pills. I find they work for me, but i can't wake up in the morning properly and i'm groggy all the next day. aslo you can start to get addicted to them as it becomes the only way you can fall asleep.

- Finally, do exercise during the day to get your body tired before you go to bed. Even a walk in the late evening can be good.

Can't say its the miracle cure, but it works most times. Reading bit is the best for me, if i really concentrate on the words, each one individual word, then my eyes and mind get tired, and i can turn the light out and fall right asleep. can take a while though.

I watched a program about it they mention them things they also said having a warm bath and getting into a cold bed works. apparently when your body is cooling down it makes you tired, somehow fools your body clock or something.

they mentioned something about sleeping patterns as well but I cant remember what. I will see if I can find the program somewhere and get you the link.

edit: well found that quickly lol.

Sounds like a good idea. i love a cold bed - Smooth and cool, like the other side of the pillow. Funny enough, i always find it harder to sleep in summer. it's too hot for me.

I got most of those ideas from the NHS Direct website (UK).

I used to suffer with insomnia so heres some tips to help you sleep but keep in mind they come with sacrifice. Don't use the internet or play any games 2 hours before you go to bed. The light projected from the screen messes with your eyes which puts stress on them and the stress on your eyes keeps you awake.

Don't drink anything with caffeine in it after 6pm, thats an obvious one aye.

Reading 10 or so pages of a book relaxes the mind and makes you tired.

Try not to think when trying to sleep. This is were counting sheep comes from. Counting numbers occupies your thoughts which stops you from thinking of the things you otherwise would have thought of.

Also have you tryed sleeping tablets. They work like a charm but they are very addictive so be warned.

Other sugestions is to try and get up early every morning. If you get up around 8am every morning by the time 12am at night hits you'll be trying to keep your eyes open

Never try drugs to go for sleep, because sleep can be very ritualized and habitual. Start using drugs (over the counter, prescription, legal, illegal, whatever), and you won't be able to stop. Once upon a time i decided i need a fan to help me sleep, and now i need some sort of white noise all the time.

Ultimately you have to find somewhere comfortable to sleep. Do you do stuff in your bedroom (i.e. is your computer and gaming systems there?). Such things can turn your bedroom into an intimidating environment, which is how it works for me. Sleeping on the couch puts me right out if i'm having trouble.

Oh my gosh, this, so much this. For the longest time I took Benadryl before I went to bed(3 years) to help with allergies. Back in February I decided to stop it. It was a couple horrible weeks... Glad to say I no longer need them though.^_^

Though I still need a fan. If I didn't have one i'd be too hot anyways, but that is beside the point

Sig thanks to Saber! :D

lol, I thought this thread was about you.. and I also got a kick out of the guy who said play Ratchet and Clank, being that's your avatar.

I just jumped into this thread to let the poster know I think I have you on my friends list on the PS3, and I could send you a message if he was looking for you :)

You may have overactive adrenal glands.  There are several supplements you can take than might calm them down.

Another thing that might help is chamomile tea.

Embrace it, then challenge yourself to stay up for the entire day after, come 9PM you'll be out like a light*

* You will feel like a zombie at this point though.
