Never try drugs to go for sleep, because sleep can be very ritualized and habitual. Start using drugs (over the counter, prescription, legal, illegal, whatever), and you won't be able to stop. Once upon a time i decided i need a fan to help me sleep, and now i need some sort of white noise all the time.
Ultimately you have to find somewhere comfortable to sleep. Do you do stuff in your bedroom (i.e. is your computer and gaming systems there?). Such things can turn your bedroom into an intimidating environment, which is how it works for me. Sleeping on the couch puts me right out if i'm having trouble.
