WE HAD THE INTERNET THIRTY YEARS AGO?

1990 is twenty years ago.  Or are you seeing something I'm not in this thread?

Well clearly I'm seeing an extra decade.

Clearly.

I would suppose that while clock speed lets a CPU think faster, bus speed lets it communicate faster.

So the SNES could process more stuff, but the Genesis could actually display more or some such?

The bus is about speed, but that's not all that the system does. Because the CPU on the SNES was so fast, good programming could make up for the slower bus speed. Hence Street Fighter II Turbo could go even faster than the arcade.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Gotcha.  Thank you!

Of course, the PS3 won the latter battle too.  High Definition gaming and Cell Processing!!!*

I couldn't help but use this to help illustrate the point of the thread. History sometimes repeats itself in surprisingly short cycles.

Oh the memories....I was (still are a bit) super loyal to nintendo in those days, I was 14.  I remember being mad at my father for buying me a Linx for xmas.  I wanted the gameboy so bad but never got one.  I was so bored at playing "California Games" while everyone else played Super mario land.

The Genesis battle I never understood.  Sure it was superior to the NES but everyone knew the 16bit NES was coming soon.  I never really noticed the Genesis getting any buzz until the whole Mortal Kombat blood debate.

LMAO!!

I don't understand people on this thread saying that Nintendo is, has been, and always will be, doomed.  Really? Because I think Nintendo easily dominated this generation, and it probably will the next, as well, thanks to Nintendo 3DS.  Even last generation, due to the Gameboy Advance/SP, Nintendo was still viable competition (again, I mean overall, not in console wars).  It should also be noted that Nintendo has the strongest and most stable handheld market of ANY other video game company in history.  I think Nintendo is far from doomed.  I think Nintendo will continue to be the leaders in gaming innovation for years to come.

Note for all the Nintendo haters out there:  Please note that I didn't say graphics, multimedia, or HD.  I said innovation.  It is pretty much impossible to deny Nintendo's true skill in that department.

I don't believe that innovation is equivalent to having the guts to release a console with motion controls.   Not knocking Nintendo in past generations at all, or even current ones as much.  I just don't really know how 'innovative' the motion controls this generation were. Definitely a ballsy, bold decision by Nintendo.  Innovative?  I don't know if I can give that to them.

Nintendo will be doomed for the next 30 years. Nothing is going to change. The forums wont change, there will still be Nintendo haters, and the same old "Nintendo is doomed" will be sung.
