Forums - Nintendo - Miyamoto Brought Coat Hangers to his Job Interview

Makes perfect sense

We know that Shigeru Miyamoto likes to do things his own way, and it's safe to say that's got him quite far in this business. Judging from how he approached his first interview at Nintendo, you may be surprised he even got a foot in the door.

No, that's not quite right

The traditional props for a job interview tend to be a portfolio of work and a glistening resume, but Mr Miyamoto being Mr Miyamoto instead took along coat hangers he had designed specifically for young children. With crosses made to fit within a small notch in the wall and painted with elephants, the custom hangers clearly impressed Nintendo as the rest is history.

Imagine: had Mr Miyamoto played it safe and brought a showreel, the world of Nintendo could have been a very different place.

I swear I remember this being posted somewhere months ago. But it does show that thinking outside the box is a good thing.

Too many associate that with being quirky for its own sake, though.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

I am sure the humility and everyday man gig is his public image which he is very conscious of to the point of neurosis.

I would bet if you got him off the record at his home, he would be sitting back smoking Cuban cigars and drinking whiskey laughing at both Sony and Microsoft trying to catch up, while Nintendo and him dream up new ways of disrupting their their competitors business and dictating the video game market for decades to come.

What kind of idiot casual clothes-wearer would use one of those elephant-hangers anyway.

Crappy products!

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Wow, Miyamoto sure has balls to do that
