Forums - Gaming - Why is their a news piece about NSMB being fastest game to 15 million?

You know, I hate to come down on one side or the other of this argument.

While I believe that NSMBWii deserves to be the fastest selling game ever...

...and I believe it is the fastest selling exclusive game ever.

...and the fastest selling good game ever.

...and the fastest selling game on a single console ever.

...and the fastest selling platformer ever

...and the fastest selling fuck all fuck THING ever.

It is not technically the fastest selling "game" ever.

At first I thought it was. The PS3 and 360 versions of MW2 are vastly different. From boxing, to printing, to framerate, gameplay, and content. Those items are NOT the same game. They are listed seperately and to get their sales figures, you have to ADD them up.

...then I said...well if that's the case, then really, the DS hasn't sold as much as I like to claim either. There is the DS, the DSLite, the DSi, ect. Those systems are very different, but we count them all as one system. So, if we count all the DS's, all the PSP X thousands, all the different colored Wiis and nunchucks, and all that shite together as one thing, then how can we not count MW2 as one thing, when we're being honest?

So, despite the fact that I loathe almost everyone who agrees with me, and despite the fact that The Source is probably my favorite member, I have to side with my deductions above all else.

...and I want to address the fact that at VGChartz we list these multiplat games sperately. The article must be referring to our VGChartz system of databasing, and not our VGChartz news article and generally accepted terminilogy which often gives us a total of all a games sales.

So there it is.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

ON ONE PLATFORM

So you can separate versions to see if Xbox games sell better than the PS3 version, but when you compare to Wii games, you have to count them together because "it's the same game". If it's the same game, why specify the console in the charts?

Games are made to one particular platform, they are not DVD's. Following your logic "Namco Museum" should be first in your top 10 list. Why is not?

I know The Source is a big fan of the Wii and not so much the HD, but MW2 is A game, and it reached 15 million in 8 weeks, much faster than NSMB

VGChartz lists games according to separate SKUs. It's the fastest single SKU to ever hit 15 million.

That's all there is.

Yeah you're right, it is the fastes single sku to hit 15 million.

"7) Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (X360 & PS3) - 19.21m"

Funny how source didn't list those games in skus, in that VERY article, isn't it Khuutra.

Not only that, but MW2 sold 15 million without any abituary's (sp?) attached to it.

Modern Warfare 2 as A game, reached 15 million faster than any other game going by the data we have. No single platform, no multiplatform, no nothing. GAME. Fastest GAME.

That title belongs to MW2, so why wasn't there a news piece for MW2 reaching 15 mill? Will it's impending win of reaching 20 million the fastest be noted?

I doubt it ...

You, a writer for this site, are complaining that not enough articles are being written. I am speechless.

?? When someone specifies an Xbox version sold more than PS3 version, it's a VS thing ... it's still the same game.

I don't see what you're actually getting at.

I make no excuses for the Source's consistencies or his flubs. VGChartz lists games according to SKUs. There is no way to combine SKUs in our charts. Consistency with the data presentation of the site demands that SKUs be counted differently.

Not saying I agree with it. You will take note that in my Top 50 Games of this Gen topic (in the Sales Forum no less, and stickied) I combine SKUs. I do this knowing that the site does it differently.

But tha's how the Source presents the data; it's how Brett presents the data. There's nothing to argue about unless you want to argue with how Brett has the data laid out.

That's because you don't really know anything about the site content what I do. I'm a reviewer, I don't write articles unless asked. I certainly wouldn't be the person to write articles about sales.

Just because the data is laid out like that, doesn't mean they don't think it doesn't count as one game. At one point I remember they were asking if we wanted to see the skus combined.

They have the skus seperated for many reasons, not because they don't think it's the same game.

Then you might want to take this up with The Source, or Brett.
