What would qualify as a "mega-bomb" for Dead Rising? 3 million does seem high, I admit, but it should be able to get numbers only a little lower than the original... right?

I would say under a million this year is "mega-bomb" for a production like DR2.  And honestly, sales on those level wouldn't surprise me.

Under a million this year? Wanna make a-...

...

...Nah, no bet.

Ubisoft (preliminary) data for Apr-June 2010:

Revenues: 160m Euro (15m Euro higher than forecast - nice work!)

Shipments through June 2010: Splinter Cell: Conviction - 1,900,000 (X360, PC), Just Dance - 800,000 in Apr-Jun / 3,700,000 ltd (Wii).

Other: Driver delayed until Jan-March 2011, Michael Jackson expected to be a million-selling game.

So...I think the Japanese 3DS release date is coming on July 29 with Nintendo's earnings report.

Reasons

1) DS probably won't do more than 24-25m in FY 3/2010. To hit 5-6m 3DS has to launch somewhere in 2010...and that somewhere is likely to be Japan.

2) With a 2010 launch in Japan Nintendo has limited venues at which to announce a release data and build awareness. E3 has passed. Earnings results for July-Sept don't arrive until early November. TGS is in the fall. Gamescom is Europe/ western focused. That leaves the July 29 earnings release.

3) Nintendo said more info about launch timing and 3DS pricing would come after E3 2010.

4) DS models had 10-20% price cuts in Japan recently.

Good reasoning on the 3DS launch. I'm looking forward to those financials. Have Rockstar announced when their's will be?

More Ubisoft info:

Top Third Parties for Jan-June 2010

Europe

1) (Publisher - probably EA)

2) Ubisoft

USA

1) (Publisher "probably EA, Take Two, or Activision")

2) (Publisher " ")

3) (Publisher " ")

4) Ubisoft

Nintendo is of course above Ubisoft in both regions, but that still puts Ubisoft at third overall in Europe for the first half of 2010 - pretty impressive. Sony is likely right behind in fourth. Can't see Ubisoft maintaining this next year though unless Just Dance 2 is also a big, long-selling hit.

Xbox 360 platform and PC game revenue decreased $12 million, primarily reflecting a reduction in Xbox 360 consoles sold and revenue per console, offset in part by increased Xbox LIVE revenue. We shipped 10.3 million Xbox 360 consoles during the fiscal year 2010, compared with 11.2 million Xbox 360 consoles during fiscal year 2009.

EDD operating income increased due to reduced operating expenses.
