Forums - Sales - Its time to admit it. PS3 will NEVER overtake 360.

Ease up on the lectures please Matt.  Most of us are just talking here and other than a few people who take things way too seriously we're having fun doing it.  Hell, they're probably having fun too!  No gamers were incinerated in the making of this thread.

The new 360 impacts the OP in two ways.  Short-term it means sales swing back to 360 after a long run by PS3 and the gap widens.  It also means the Nextbox is delayed.  If this adds another year or two to the 360's life then PS3 has less time to overtake and/or pull away after the 360 is retired.  Expecting a $199 PS3 anytime soon seems like wishful thinking to me.  Unless Sony want to make absolutely nothing this gen.

360 will not stop selling when M$ eventually release their next upgrade and after that it will probably be going for $100.  The xbox had an early demise primarily for proprietary reasons that kept costs high.  I'm going to guess a small worldwide lifetime win for PS3 by the time they stop building them in 2015 or so.  4-5m?   That's if Sony price cut by just $50 and not till next year,  Kinect is more successful than Move and PS3 has only one extra year.  That's a lot of variables and more to come.

I'm not going to argue with you, but do you think its brighter than the future of the PS3?

For me?  Absolutely.  I haven't turned on my PS3 in a couple of weeks and have no games currently pre-ordered for it.

That doesn't mean I hate my PS3 (I don't) or Sony (it sits beneath my Bravia TV and next to my Sony receiver), but not everyone has the same videogame taste as you.  It's not that hard to understand, really, is it?

Most of you here need to realize that the consoles you are "rooting for" are boxes made of metal and plastic that are manufactured by companies that want your money. These hunks of future landfill that play games and are meant to entertain. They don't have supernatural powers, they were not designed for battle, and they require you to devote yourself to them.

I have been a core gamer for 20 years of my life, and I love video games. Notice I didn't say, "I love only Playstation" or "I love only Xbox." I own all consoles so that I can play any game I choose to. I don't ever have to be concerned that I won't have the opportunity to play something, and I don't have to concern myself to corporate loyalty. Right now tonight, I could play Uncharted 2, then pop in Alan Wake, and then finish up with some Wii Sports Resort. It's amazing, but it's possible. And guess what! I don't get angry when playing my 360 that there is a PS3 sitting right beside it.

Who care which console comes in first? Who said it was a competition other than the money hungry companies that are fighting for your every dollar?

Grow up, and just play some video games.

Nice speech. Glad that's working out for you.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a Sony product to defend...

I suppose this is fair enough, i know i might get labeled as a fanboy for this, but i support sony as a company and the PS3 as a product because i feel their a better company and have a better ethos.

i personally dont like M$, i didnt like them before the 360 came out because of their windows operating systems. but @matt, for someone like me its not just about out of control fanboyism, i genuinly support the PS3 for what i think are good reasons. and to all the 360 fanboys out their, this isnt an attack on your system, its just my opinion. other people have other perferences.

No, I was just curious.

While it's in no way set in stone, I agree there is nothing the PS3 can do in America to steal anything from Microsoft.

NPD since PS3 released.

i dont think are evr going to beat the 360 on america no but though i think it will take a hell long time it should be able to beat it worldwide.

US and UK will stay with 360.

The rest will end up with the ps3.

Thanks for the insight

If the PS3 somehow wins over American consumers (I still don't understand why it hasn't yet), then there is no way the 360 will outsell the PS3 worldwide.

However, for some reason us Americans are still in love with the 360. I cannot fathom why.

Buy one and find out then, it's probably the same reason why nobody can understand why people insisted on buying a PS3 pre 2009
