Ease up on the lectures please Matt. Most of us are just talking here and other than a few people who take things way too seriously we're having fun doing it. Hell, they're probably having fun too! No gamers were incinerated in the making of this thread.
The new 360 impacts the OP in two ways. Short-term it means sales swing back to 360 after a long run by PS3 and the gap widens. It also means the Nextbox is delayed. If this adds another year or two to the 360's life then PS3 has less time to overtake and/or pull away after the 360 is retired. Expecting a $199 PS3 anytime soon seems like wishful thinking to me. Unless Sony want to make absolutely nothing this gen.
360 will not stop selling when M$ eventually release their next upgrade and after that it will probably be going for $100. The xbox had an early demise primarily for proprietary reasons that kept costs high. I'm going to guess a small worldwide lifetime win for PS3 by the time they stop building them in 2015 or so. 4-5m? That's if Sony price cut by just $50 and not till next year, Kinect is more successful than Move and PS3 has only one extra year. That's a lot of variables and more to come.
