Forums - Sales - Its time to admit it. PS3 will NEVER overtake 360.

I´m going to be really honest when i say it´s very sad that the 360 is selling like hot cakes in this past few weeks.

And before anyone calls me a PS3 fanboy, i don´t have a PS3, i have a 360.

The point is, Microsoft needs to fall hard, and it´s for their own good, because at this point, they suck like no tomorrow.

They lack in first parties, they lack on exclusives (except the timely ones and DLC crap), they even lack on Ips for they live on Halo, Fable and Forza alone (Gears and Mass Effect are third party, they can lose it at any time).

They are a american console for the american people, they don´t care for anyone else (which is just pathetic in this day and age), and you can see that with the all 20 minutes ESPN on their E3 press conference or that the Xbox live price is equal in every market (basically, the world is financing the US Xbox Live).

They need to fall so they open their eyes and think for a moment.

Think about what?  There are plenty of multiplatform games on the 360 - so it's hardly an issue of the console not having games.

Don't YOU get that MS is managing to sell their consoles and produce games without mass producing exclusive first party games?  Leave it up to people to not give credit where it is due.   I'm not interested in buying a console to play games others cannot.  I just like to play games period.  Exclusive or not shouldn't matter to you - and it obviously doesn't matter to many Americans.

People need to stop with this "I belong to this faction" mentality.  Don't cry because there aren't a load of 360 exclusives for you to obnoxiously list during console war arguements.  Microsoft need not fall nor wake up - it's gamers like you that do.

Do people expect GT5 to move 3 million consoles? I doubt there are three million people waiting to get a PS3 for one game. I know last gens sales of the GT franchise were huge, but is it the same this gen?

GT5p sold 3.78 million copies (bundled)

Incorrect, that's only counting retail copies, and not downloads.

Real numbers should be close to this: http://www.polyphony.co.jp/english/list.html

Edit: Also, comparing Halo 3: ODST to GT5:P is a little difficult, though I understand where you're coming from. GT5P features ALL will be available in the final version of GT5. Now Halo 3: ODST, on the other hand, had its own campaign and online mode (firefight). Do you really think Halo 3: ODST sales would be the same if Halo 3: ODST's campaign and firefight mode would be the same if it were included in the Halo: Reach disc? I highly doubt it.

More interestingly, what would sales of ODST and Halo 3 have been if they released in reverse order

Or that, yeah.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

I remember when the PS3 slim launched and everyone was like the PS3 will takeover the 360, now that 360 slim is out its back to PS3 is doom. Its funny to me to watch fanboys on this site compete over which HD console sells better.

GT5p sold 3.78 million copies (bundled), which is definitely good, but not super awesome huge mega - like.
GT on PSP sold 1.3 million, which is not that good.

Racing games are not that popular anymore. Shooter seem to be the best selling genre on th HD consoles. Halo, Modern Warfare, Gears etc.

GT5 will be bundled as well, but I have my doubts it will move hardware as good as people think.

As a racing fan, I already had the chance to play dozens of Racing games. There are 5 Need for Speed games, 2 Forzas, 2 Test Drive Unlimiteds, 1 Race PRO, 2 PGRs, 2 DiRTs, GRID, Ridge Racer, 3 Moto GPs, 2 Nascar, 2 Burnouts, Blur, SpiltSecond and PURE - but that is not all.  I think most of the racing fans could have picked a console already.

I really think there are no huge system sellers left for this gen. Look, the 360 will be in its 6th year (!!!) soon. The PS3 will be in its 5th year soon. Both have HUGE libraries. One game won't make people to buy a system at this age.

This is the best post of this thread.  GT5 is just not going to do the sales that GT3 did when it comes to console sales.  It is a totally different environment.

40 million PS3s already sold vs like 10 million.
GT3 showed the world what the PS2 could do. We already know what the PS3 can do.
GT5 has been selling PS3s for 5 years now and the GT fanatics (being fanatics) picked up a PS3 for GT5p.
So many racers with incredible visuals have already released the gen. Certainly pushing people wanting GT5 over the edge.

Software will sell great and PS3 will sell similiar to last year in November and December.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Its not doom.  It is that the outcome of this generation is done.  It is now all about maximizing profit and positioning for the next generation.  3rd parties arent going to abandon either the PS3 or the 360 and Sony isnt going to sell the PS3 again at a loss this generation. So not until the cost to produce and manufacture the PS3 drops $50 will you see a $50 drop on the PS3.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

lol one week of ok 360 sales and the whole webset goes t pot.

This thread will look like a joke in a few weeks

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

It really doesn't matter if Sony or Microsoft are second or third.

Third parties are going to support them both because AAA title budgets are too large to be supported by just one platform.

And total console sales don't mean much because it is impossible to figure out whether people are buying second consoles, re-buying a newer (bigger, better, or more reliable) model, or buying their first console.

The health of a console is in third party software sales and availability of development tools.  And both Sony and Microsoft are experiencing strong third party software sales and tool support so developers keep producing for them.  I wish people would realize both consoles are here to stay.

We are getting to the part in the generation where it will get boring over the next few years.  The current generation is about milking gamers now (because companies have to pay for the engines they created this generation and receive return on those investments - Look at Prince of Persia, Assassin's Creed, Dragon Age, Need for Speed, Skate, Madden, Gears of War, Little Big Planet, Motorstorm, etc. as examples).  How many (real) new games are coming out?  This year is sequel city.  Don't get me wrong.  I love some of the engines that have come out this generation.  And there are new IPs, but they are almost all being based on broadening the reach of tech engines already created for this generation.

People have to get over the console war for at least this generation.  Cause it will end in a stalmate.  Nintendo came back from the dead, Microsoft proved it can be a player, and Sony has showed staying power.  That sums up the result.

MS recently said that the new Slim Xbox was beeing released in the middle of the total Lifespan and that the Xbox360 still has 5 years time. (Hopefully this will end this 10 year plan joke since MS is on the same plan as Sony)

PS3 is still at 299. And I doubt this was the last PS3 Slim. 5 Mln (or 6 if it goes really well for MS next months) is not that much if we are in the middle (like MS and Sony said) of this gen.

The Industry cant afford the high development cost increase which is coming with a new platform yet. So they most certainly are going to support PS3 and Xbox360 a while longer. Like Sony said its a Marathon and not a Sprint. Nothing is set in Stone yet.

I agree with what you've said here, and theres also the fact that PS3 has only just started to see a profit. and the key thing here is that the Wii is selling better and the top Wii software is selling well as well. so its definitly not about hardware power.

so at the moment i think the 360 could outsell PS3 this year, but i dont see it selling at the same level after that. M$ want Kinect to increase the lifespan by 5 years. maybe it will work. but as a core gamer i'm more interested in the next 5 or 6 years with the PS3. imo the console isnt going anywhere for the next years and the games are just going to power through.

It makes no difference, they won't listen, and if you point it out you must be a Sony hater!!

Over the past few weeks i have realised that it is pointless to talk to these people. They actually believe GT5 will sell like 3m consoles in a couple of weeks on it's own. Like there is this giant swarm of people somewhere all sat at their PS2's counting down the day's until GT5 release so they can finally upgrade to the almost in it's 5th year PS3! Can you imagine that person? If they were die hard GT fans they must be sick to death of playing the same games over and over on their PS2, they must be rideculed by their friends for being so out of date! Those people would have to be well in their 20s due to GT3 being in 2001 (the best GT game). I am in my 20s. Majority of my friends who had a ps2 have bought a console this gen. My female friends who had a ps2 have a Wii.

I look forward to seeing the pics of these people coming out of their bunkers to see the sun for the first time in almost half a decade on their way to buy a ps3 and GT5, it will be very moving to see this group of people like a migrating heard head off across the savanna to their local game stores. That is if they can remember where it is as would be so long since they have been there! ;)
