Forums - Sony - Sony: Nintendo Shouldn't Bash 3D Glasses

Yeah, but you do realise that not everyone is you, and that some people either don't care about 3D, like some didn't care about HD, and that indeed some people don,t care if they wear glasses to view stuff in 3D.

You are talking like Sony is the only culprit here.  Just because they have a console that can provide such features?  As far as I know, Samsung and Sharp (who provides Nintendo with their 3D screen for the 3DS) are also selling 3D enabled Blu-Ray players and TVs (Sharp will jump in a bit later this year, around the holiday season).  But sure, just point at Sony, for whatever bias you have. ¬_¬

sony is the one saying that nintendo shouldn't knack 3d glasses, they aren't.

Yes, and they are both not aiming their products at the same kind of market.  Handhelds have yet to replace living room consoles.  And are even further from replacing home entertainment in general.

Viewing 3D movies on the 3DS with your family?

When it comes to the tech behind it, Nintendo is doing very good with the 3DS. I can't say otherwise.  Yet, mocking the glasses version of 3D like Reggie did during this year's E3 to promote their device is petty.  The same as when Butler mocks the Wii or Kinect.   But Nintendo isn't just mocking Sony in this case, but the entire current 3D TV industry.  As if to say to the consumer that their product can replace what you could get for your living room when it's obviously not the case at this point in time since the tech is just nowhere there yet.

Please enlighten me what htey are supposed to do to market their devise.  Glasses have been needed since forever for 3D and now they ahve something that doesn't need glasses.  Thus their marketing promo is "3D without the Glasses"

spin it how you want in who they are knocking or making fun of or whatever, you just spitting out bs.  They aren't targeting a compnay, they are targeting an IDEA.  that idea is you no longer need glasses for a 3D experience

No it won't replace home entertainment, we aren't morons.  But you are also being blind as well.  Can you not see that once this IDEA of "3D with no glasses" is spread or catches on, that leaves millions of people NOT BUYING a tv that needs 3D glasses in opt for waiting till they are not required.  Its the idea that will stall 3DTV sales, not the 3DS.

The real deal is not gonna come even with glasses less 3D TVs.   When they'll come out, it is likely that those TVs will have a comfortable viewing angle of, say, 50 degrees, then someone will bring a 70 degrees model, then a 100 degrees one, and so on...

Then it will be holographic screens...

You'll wait a lot of you wait for the defining tech to come out.

Read a few CES 2010 read reports. The TV's there were said to work from any angle. Well at least the Intel one, Phillips and Samsung. Magnetic TV was poor from what Ive read.

Granted it's not just Sony. But talking out at Nintendo when Nintendo have a point, is nothing but selling their existing range.

Holographic by the way is scientifically said to be 20 years away. So your safe waiting 3 years for 3DTV without glasses.

Technology is moving very fast at the moment.

A reason why I wont ever own a BLU RAY. A reason why I buy films from July onwards via download if I want a HD film.

3D films and Games will most likely be mainstream in 4-5 years. So it's logical to wait for the glassless TV's. SKY is looking into 3d live TV in the next few years. You cant imagine a family of 6 walking around the house with a pair of glasses in hand everytime you want to go to the toilet, make a drink, get a sandwhich just to continue watching Prison Break?

What if you lose a pair? Battery runs out?

IT's clumsy, more widgets to your living room etc.

Personally, imagine in 3 years 3DTV, games, movies, live TV all with no glasses and no remotes. Thats a complete overhall of modern entertainment.

The only step left after that is holographic which is years away.

So everyone will be safe in 3 years to purchase the right equipment to last.

Knocking 3DTV with glasses is very good imo. And everyone should do so to stop people wasting money.

You can already buy PC monitors that omit 3d without glasses from Phillips. And that can even take a 2d image and process a 3d output. It's only a few years away. And 3DS will make consumers hopefully realise this.

Nintendo are promoting the proper future of 3d entertainment. I back them fully on this.

I'm just referring to the image hit, a little vengeance for Sony, Nintendo bashing the glasses and having to use them too if it wants 3D on its next home console.

Nintendo doesn't use shit.  They make a system that is 3D capable, that is it.  Its up to TV makers and consumers to decide what type of 3D will be displayed.  A game won't be made different for glasses or non glassses 3D.

I totally agree about this, in the last days I wrote countless times that any game for any console using stereoscopic 3D is totally agnostic with regard to the use of 3D glasses. The hit for Nintendo would be
only to its image, for having bashed glasses, but having to rely on them until glasses-free home TVs become mainstream.

Which is publicly viewed by almost all gadget media with 3 years. Perfect for next gen systems.

lol.  After all the PR shit Sony has heaped on Nintendo over the years (carts, kiddy, casual, "handheld ghetto", etc ,etc) this is pretty rich.

Practice what you preach hypocrites.

Within 3 years the first production model glasses-free 3D TVs will be available for sale, if there won't be any unexpected problems, but how much more time will it take before those techs become mainstream? I know I'll stick to 2D TV until glasses-free 3D TV will be cheap, but people wanting 3D since the start will have to accept glasses for non portable uses for a few years. Their choice, I don't care. And even if Sony will push that tech at full steam, it will still be an expensive niche by the time glasses-free techs start becoming mainstream, so, if a minority of rich enthusiasts is willing to pioneer, why should I stop them? Early adopters help me find cheaper tech a few months or years later, they'll do it for glasses 3D that I don't care about, but they'll do the same for glasses-free, that I'd like, so be they forever blessed and nobody dare stop them!

And to come back to my point, even in the most optimistic scenario for glasses-free, if Wii2 is launched early, it will have to rely partially or totally on glasses for its first years.

Okay guys the main reason people dont like wearing 3d galsses is because it makes you look goofy right? Well we all have to admit playing the wii or any motion device makes you look goofy as well. Im just saying if people are willing to use an imaginary steering wheel then they can wear 3d glasses too without a problem.

I think moreso that by next gen of consoles 3d glasses will be old.

Why buy into a tech now that is about to go in 2 years?

There are prototype TV's at shows which are wowing audiences more than the 3d glasses TV's. And you dont have to where glasses.

You obviously cant see the 3d in the video I'm posting, but this is a Tv with the 2 lenses as part of the screen. It lays on top of the picture slightly raised. The TV is built in such a way you cant notice it.

Therefore you have imagary popping out of the screen without wearing glasses. Because the entire screen is the glasses.

THIS IS THE FUTURE. THIS ISNT FAR AWAY. Why would anyone in their right mind spend £1800 on the cheapest 3dHDTV now in my country when these TV's are gonna show up in 2-3years. Possibly sooner.

Sony has made a mistake here for me. Pushing 3d now on consoles. The exact same existing films etc will work with these TV's to. They are at all Gadget show events and have the largest buzz. So any money put into KZ3, GT5 etc etc is wasted right now. People will wait. I am.

Even moreso, is that many companies, Phillips, Panasonic, Samsung are all doing 3dTV's without gkasses. The basic ideals is that 3DTV without glasses is mainstream 2015. It's 2011 next year. Sony are pushing now to make you buy a TV and then buy another. Reports suggest no glasses is better looking to and in HD.

Sigh @ Selnor.

You do realise that the PS3 will be able to display 3D on glasses-less TVs too, right?  Just like any movies getting released in 3D right now.

So how is getting KZ3, GT5 or any other current 3D ready games nothing but a waste of money?

Becasue they are treating unsuspecting consumers with money as stupid.

Get them to buy a new 3dTV that needs glasses in December or April next year for £1500. Then in 3 years get them to rebuy a 3dTV for the same price that doesn't need glasses.

Sony should have put there efforts into Glassless Tech. Not pushing Glasses tech now for a couple of years to shoot everyone down.

They know exactly what they are doing. It's very poor to consumers.

Releasing so many games First party in 3d is testamont to this. Becasue they have to buy a 3dTV for this feature to work. And the extra dev time and money on the game to do this is again testamont to them sucking the consumer dry.

I urge everyone to wait for the real deal.

Agreed. I don't see why anyone in the right mind would invest $2000 in a 3DTV with glasses now, when they will be obsolete in just a few years time when 3DTVs WITHOUT the need of glasses makes it on the scene. You might as well be burning your $2000.

I know one thing, I am not buying a 3DTV until they do not require the stupid glasses, AND are available at a mass market price, like $500-600. That probably won't happen for another 10 years, but I don't care. It's simply a waste of money. I mean I JUST got a decent HDTV.
