Forums - Sony - Sony: Nintendo Shouldn't Bash 3D Glasses

I'd love to know how Nintendo could possibly advertise their USP of 3D without glasses without mentioning that you don't need glasses at some point, and of course, mentioning that you don't need glasses isn't quite the same as saying 'ZOMG, 3D glasses are evil, they will rape your retina and melt your brain, burn them... wipe them from existence'... But then we gamers have always been good for incessant hyperbole.

It really is no different to Sony bigging up Blu Ray or 'teh power of teh cell' amongst many of their own USPs when all is said and done...

Yea its F*ing moronic.  Its like Nintendo comes out and is like check this out our new Nintendo 3DS, it plays games and movies and takes pictuers in 3D.  You can do all that on our system and in 3D.

Random reporter:  How much are the glasses going to be and why aren't you showing them off or wearing them right now?

Nintendo:  Oh our system doesn't need glasses to be in 3D

Sony: OMG Cheapshop, how dare you nintendo.  Don't bash our 3D glasses technology, that is a low uncalled for blow.  Lets work together.

OTOH Sony will be avenged if Nintendo will be forced to launch Wii2 before glasses-free 3D is available and affordable for home TV too...

Techs exist, as many in this thread showed, but how long will it take to them to become mainstream?

Firstly. Explain how Avatar is the highest grossing movie ever.

Secondly. Glasses 3D is currently the only way (as far as i know) that people can watch 3D stuff at the pictures or at home. If nobody liked wearing the glasses, we wouldn't be having a big 3D craze right now. Would we?

I'm a bit disappointed that Squilliam missed the best reason for this: Inflation.

All too easy. *waves hand and lowers carl into the carbonite pit*

It drops to 14th after adjusting for inflation.

@Alby_da_Wolf - Sony doesn't win shit (or avenged) if Nintendo releases their next home console system before glasses free TV are mainstream.  Everyone will release their systems before that is mainstream.  3D TV that require glasses won't even be mainstream.  You are thinking way too far in the future............  Nintendo didn't even bother having the Wii output more than 480p this generation and that didn't stop them from dominating.   If anything the next system by Nintendo will output 1080p at least and will have the 3D option available for the few people that actually buy 3D TVs.

I'm just referring to the image hit, a little vengeance for Sony, Nintendo bashing the glasses and having to use them too if it wants 3D on its next home console.

Nintendo doesn't use shit.  They make a system that is 3D capable, that is it.  Its up to TV makers and consumers to decide what type of 3D will be displayed.  A game won't be made different for glasses or non glassses 3D.

Okay guys the main reason people dont like wearing 3d galsses is because it makes you look goofy right? Well we all have to admit playing the wii or any motion device makes you look goofy as well. Im just saying if people are willing to use an imaginary steering wheel then they can wear 3d glasses too without a problem.

I think moreso that by next gen of consoles 3d glasses will be old.

Why buy into a tech now that is about to go in 2 years?

There are prototype TV's at shows which are wowing audiences more than the 3d glasses TV's. And you dont have to where glasses.

You obviously cant see the 3d in the video I'm posting, but this is a Tv with the 2 lenses as part of the screen. It lays on top of the picture slightly raised. The TV is built in such a way you cant notice it.

Therefore you have imagary popping out of the screen without wearing glasses. Because the entire screen is the glasses.

THIS IS THE FUTURE. THIS ISNT FAR AWAY. Why would anyone in their right mind spend £1800 on the cheapest 3dHDTV now in my country when these TV's are gonna show up in 2-3years. Possibly sooner.

Sony has made a mistake here for me. Pushing 3d now on consoles. The exact same existing films etc will work with these TV's to. They are at all Gadget show events and have the largest buzz. So any money put into KZ3, GT5 etc etc is wasted right now. People will wait. I am.

Even moreso, is that many companies, Phillips, Panasonic, Samsung are all doing 3dTV's without gkasses. The basic ideals is that 3DTV without glasses is mainstream 2015. It's 2011 next year. Sony are pushing now to make you buy a TV and then buy another. Reports suggest no glasses is better looking to and in HD.

Sigh @ Selnor.

You do realise that the PS3 will be able to display 3D on glasses-less TVs too, right?  Just like any movies getting released in 3D right now.

So how is getting KZ3, GT5 or any other current 3D ready games nothing but a waste of money?

Becasue they are treating unsuspecting consumers with money as stupid.

Get them to buy a new 3dTV that needs glasses in December or April next year for £1500. Then in 3 years get them to rebuy a 3dTV for the same price that doesn't need glasses.

Sony should have put there efforts into Glassless Tech. Not pushing Glasses tech now for a couple of years to shoot everyone down.

They know exactly what they are doing. It's very poor to consumers.

Releasing so many games First party in 3d is testamont to this. Becasue they have to buy a 3dTV for this feature to work. And the extra dev time and money on the game to do this is again testamont to them sucking the consumer dry.

I urge everyone to wait for the real deal.

Yeah, but you do realise that not everyone is you, and that some people either don't care about 3D, like some didn't care about HD, and that indeed some people don,t care if they wear glasses to view stuff in 3D.

You are talking like Sony is the only culprit here.  Just because they have a console that can provide such features?  As far as I know, Samsung and Sharp (who provides Nintendo with their 3D screen for the 3DS) are also selling 3D enabled Blu-Ray players and TVs (Sharp will jump in a bit later this year, around the holiday season).  But sure, just point at Sony, for whatever bias you have. ¬_¬

The real deal is not gonna come even with glasses less 3D TVs.   When they'll come out, it is likely that those TVs will have a comfortable viewing angle of, say, 50 degrees, then someone will bring a 70 degrees model, then a 100 degrees one, and so on...

Then it will be holographic screens...

You'll wait a lot of you wait for the defining tech to come out.
