This. And I will simply add :

There are five possible operations in war: if you can fight, fight; if you cannot fight, defend; if you cannot defend, flee; if you cannot flee, surrender; if you cannot surrender, die!

What if I can't die?

Well, I don't have the chance to know someone (or a company) who can't die...

3D glasses won't move beyond the enthusiast set. At least Nintendo has the opportunity to push 3D into the mainstream which is the important point. People don't like wearing glasses, and they don't understand them. I remember seeing a Panasonic 3D demonstration in a mall a week ago and people were walking away and complaining because the glasses had been turned off. Noone understood that they needed to press the button on the left underside of the glasses.

Yep, I agree with that. Nintendo are the ones to push new technology into the mainstream, Sony is simply not able to do that right now.

Anyway, it will be nice to see what the people will think when there are the first 3D TVs which don't require glasses.

There's where I agree with you.  No glasses - not even to hold us over until tech gets more advanced.  Just skip useless technology like that.

I laugh Sony, I laugh

Sony obviously doesn't want to dork up their image. Look at their commericals like Marcus PSP and all those ads with "Young" and "Cool" people for the PSP Go. Lest we forget alliwantforxmasisapsp. Telling Sony's targeted audience glasses are dorky and Sony uses them is clearly a big hit to Sony. I predict Sony announcing a hardcore ballin version of 3D without glasses and calling Nintendo's 3DS 3D a "tiny little screen for people who use wee wee pads".

People don't like the glasses, they are willing to tolerate them because they like 3D.  There might be a subgroup of those people that do actually like the glasses but I very much doubt they are the majority.

Nintendo were hardly going to announce the 3DS and say, "Look, we do 3D too, just like Sony.", they have to tout the unique selling point of their console.  For Sony to suggest that they would like to stand shoulder to shoulder with Nintendo and forge onward towards the technological horizon is entirely disingenuous, they would stomp Nintendo out in a moment if they had half the chance.

Sony are worried that if talk of glassless 3D becomes a topic of conversation at the water cooler, people who don't understand the difference in potential applications of the screen technology that both companies are using will be more likely to hold off on the purchase of their new 3D TV,  something Sony doesn't want.

Sony have to accept they have been one-upped by Nintendo here, or at least that is going to be the common perception and they need to learn to swallow that pill because complaining about it just comes off as weak and unbecoming.

So Nintendo can't say that their glass-less 3D device are... glass-less when sony on the same time declare that the glass-less technology is not good actually...

Yes, as usual, they can bash and trash the competitors but the competitors shouldn't say anything about it. This make sony even more arrogant that they are.

PS: for the SDF i did as some do for this point, nintendo just say the spec of their device: 3D without glasses, to be honest for the sony bashing on glass-free screens, they say sony actual technology is not so good, not others manufacturers technology, but the way it was told can make people think that the glass-less technology doesn't work well.

But we must first concentrate ourselves on the way to entertain people, for video games to live. Else, it's a world where sales representative will win, which has as effect to kill creativity. I want to say to the creators all around the world:"Courage, Dare!". Shigeru Miyamoto.

This article descibes the reason why i dislike Sony. Never will i ever support them.

This. And much more stupid things said by Sony.

were your post or the post you quoted worthy of an actual post? nah.. so don't make this problem worse then it already is.

It does because it is MY opinion and it stays on topic with the article on how HIPOCRITE sony is. If you don't like it don't read it. ;] Now think if your post was really really nessesary.

There are already TVs that can do that ... but only for one person and you must sitting exactly at the right angle in front of the TV and you dont allowed to move your head. Its not for the masses, for lonely Freaks maybe.

It is a fact: With the TV technology there is no comfortable 3D possible. They must use something like holography to bring 3D at home, but we are many years away from that.

lol at sony fans STILL trying to convince people that 3D glass-free TVs are not coming anytime soon and that they will be expensive as hell.

you all DO GET the fact that Nintendo is using 3D technology that Sharp MADE FOR TVs BEFORE BIG N EVEN STARTED WORKING ON 3DS, RGHT?

you all DO GET the fact that Sharps 3D glasses-free screens for ebooks, netbook, cellphones, TVs, mobiel TVs, tablets(they've announced 3D glass free touchscreens) will be manufactured THIS YEAR FOR SHARP AND OTHER COMPANIES LIKE NINTENDO.

Sony's not trying to compete with the 3DS with their 3D

but Nintendo is trying to compete with Sony in the Home theatre market with the 3DS

makes you wonder.

Well, that is quite a logical leap and an astute one. Imagine this:

1. Nintendo 3DS drops in the US during the 2010 holiday season or March 2011 at the latest.

2. Meanwhile, Sony is spending quite a bit of R&D and marketing on their 3D television that require glasses.

3. Consumers buy the Nintendo 3DS in droves, become fascinated with the 3D without glasses, and wonder why Sony is pedaling 3D televisions upwards to $3k

4. The media reports on the Nintendo 3DS ushering in a new, glassless 3D experience.

5. Sony is proverbially screwed.

I see this happening and what this call for collaboration really then is, the worst form of corporate espionage masked under the form of collaboration.

Sony is done.

omg..

Sony is not the only one: the majority of Tv manuf. are all doing 3D TV's

the freakin D@MN 3DS is not built for the Home theatre..there is no way the 3DS is going to have that effect.on the Entire Home Theatre industry because the screen is too d@mn small. which is the same problem for every portable. they are not even in the same target Market.

the simple truth is:

a) the resolution of the Screen in the 3DS is made for portables, not home theatre

b) 3D movies are being made for Home Theatre, yes the 3DS can get portable version's, but the simple truth once again in order to have that 3D theatre experience at home you will still need 3D glasses to experience it.

c) I very much doubt that many if any is going to want to watch the 3DS as their main unit for 3D movies as a replacement for Home theatre.

d) the replacement for a glassless 3D for home theatre is quite a way's off because of several problem's but also, the very fact that its going to be real expensive for screen's 32" and above. any way mean while 3D enable LCD sceen's that use the 3D shutter technology work and they know it will be priced for mass consumer adoption well before any pratical solution of a glassless option that would be anywhere within that price range. Before The Current 3D is well established.

You are missing the forest by focusing on the trees.

It is not how big the screen size is. It is about the technology created to render 3D without the need for 3D glasses. Once this technology is created then it is a matter of refining it and replicating it onto a big screen.

This may take time to replicate on 60 inch televisions, but once Nintendo can show it, then it will have a godly patent worth 10s if not 100s of millions on a technology that Sony and every other television maker will be drooling over.
