That's why I said "usually". Nintendo's not going to keep the handheld crown, there going to lose it eventually and it can happen with the 3DS. |
srry didn't see it. and i agree. nothing last forever.
| Gilgamesh said: I've never said I expect Sony to take over, it could very well be some other company but right now Sony is it's only competitor. The X360 released a year before the Wii yet the Wii surpassed the X360 in a fairly short period of time. We'll just have to wait and see but there's no way Nintendo is going to keep the handheld title, if Apple get's serious into gaming then Nintendo should really be afraid of the competition. |
The X360 didn't sell like a winning console in its first year. Barely 5 million, the PS2 did that in one region alone (though the X360 did do very well in America, so you can see why the PS3 had no chance at taking it back)
You say "there's no way Nintendo is going to keep the handheld title," but once again, give no reasoning as to why. Is it this whole "nothing lasts forever" deal? For one, that isn't an argument. Two, other companies have lead their own industries for far longer than Nintendo has lead the handheld market, so I don't see the big deal here.
Also, before you go cheering Apple on, keep in mind that there's a chance Sony may take a PSPhone route if they make another handheld. Apple would be their main competitor.

I wonder why people who are known to be PS supporters so eagerly hype Apple every time Nintendo hanheld is mentioned. Just my observation =) |
I'm not an Apple fan, I never been. But you can't ignore them, they seem to be moving into the gaming market more and more so I'm just accepting it now that soon enough there going to be Sony and Nintendos competition, more then likely for just handhelds though.
@C0rd, Nothing last forever is a good enough argument for me, not very many people thought Playstation was going to make as big of an impact as they did, but they turned the gaming world upside down. With every generation everyone becomes fair game and it's impossible to predict which console will take the lead. Right now all we know about next gen is the 3DS, we know nothing of what Sony's next handheld will look like/have/and cost or any other handheld device, so how can everyone already assume the 3DS is going to take over?
Sounds very fanboyish to me.

Of course, you're not an Apple fan =) That's not what I've implied.
Concerning Apple moving into gaming market. Well, at this point the only game company that was severely beaten by them is Sony, namely PSP.
Simply being honest here, and looking at the 3DS lineup thus far, Sony doesn't seem to have much of a chance in the handheld market to beat the 3DS. I mean look at the titles: Resident Evil, Assassin's Creed, Kingdom Hearts, Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, Super Street Fighter, Final Fantasy, Saint's Row, Final Fantasy, Samurai Warriors, Professor Layton, Ridge Racer, Dead or Alive, on top of the Nintendo titles like Kid Icarus, Star Fox, Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, Zelda, Pilot Wings, Paper Mario, Nintendogs.. I mean DAMN.. If I were Sony, I'd be pretty afraid at this point.
Nintendo has seemingly shanghaied Sony into pouring all their effort and their resources into their Wii imitator, the PS Move, while Nintendo has moved on and is currently gathering 3rd parties to build on their new handheld, while disrupting Sony in the 3D space as well, which is Sony's other major "ace in the hole" aside from Move. Once the snowball effect of all these titles begins, it will be difficult if not impossible for Sony to slow it.
With their resources poured into Move and 3D console gaming, I can't see Sony being able to release an entirely new handheld anytime soon, giving the 3DS a huge lead ahead. I see them in a constant "PC like" upgrade to their PSP, hoping that they can continually oust Nintendo with more powerful hardware. But Sony is going to need that hook to really have any chance in the future in the handheld market. Gamers are simply not going to be sold by just better graphics anymore, especially in the handheld market.

This was an excellent input.

Well Sony maybe coming out with a PSP-4000 and if this PSP doesn't do 3D, phone calls, web browsing, have a touch screen, can get you close to Megan Fox, look like a iPhone, and can take you to the surface of Mars than it is DOOMED!!!
