You can expect more bugs in open world games. You know, sheer mass-wise. But still it's a poor excuse.

Waiting for a patch of three to get some basics stuff fixed, sucks monkeyballs. O, quilty Empire total war, i'm looking at you.

Sadly, a lot of stuff doesn't get patched. I mean, I'm sure that I'm not the only one who's noticed Oblivion's audio bug, but the game has been out for over four years now, and I'm sure if I started playing right now, I'd experience it within an hour of playing. It's like Bethesda just sticks its head in the sand and pretends like the problem doesn't exist.

You mean the music glitches and the sudden change of VA voices? Those almost seem worse after the latest patches. Especially the beggars have a tendency to completely change voice and character, even in the middle of a sentence! There are also some sound effects that either lag or get replaced, like arrows striking various surfaces or the thud of certain weapons against shields and armor.

I'd rather have an open world game filled with bugs than a polished linear game.

All those games i played and beat, there bugs are not bad at all.

snicker. I can't say for RDR, but any LONG term Bethesda(the original Arena and Daggerfall) fan knows that dear old Bethesda makes games with more ambition than their programmers can handle.

In all honestly it's more a matter of just content size. You will always end up with an X% of bugs. No matter what the game. The less the content or tighter the gameplay/experience. The more likely the bugs will be obsure, but in large games with massive content the percentage is the same, but you are likely to encounter them more just for the sole fact that theres more content.

Plus it's Bethesda they have a high bug ratio compared to other companies.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

The only problem I've had with Red Dead Redemption so far is that when the Moon rises it's a quarter size, but when it sets it's full. XD Though I wouldn't count that as a bug.

I did have a few problems with Oblivion though... freezes and what not. T_T Suspiciously always happened whenever I did a lot but forgot to save.

I've come to accept heavy bugs and glitches as part of the genre. Lol.

Didn't stop me from playing the hell out of inFamous and all the other sandbox games i've enjoyed.

Did Infamous have bugs and glitches?

I think bugs/clitches are sadly a fact of life when you look at such games.  For a number of reasons:

1 - the number of potential scenarios a player may invoke can be very high - from what they do, to what items them might have - the more scenarios the harder to test the more likely for bugs to creep through - could be something like if you happen to have finished quests A, B and D but not C and have 4 items of Z in your inventory you trip a bug that wouldn't surface in other scenarions

2 - the open nature makes AI and navigation a nightmare - hence all those characters walking into trees or whatever

3 - the size of the area makes it hard to check every bit of scenery is perfect, there are no 'holes' to fall through in the world, etc.

4 - they are expensive to make and QA leading to more chance of 'ship now, patch later' mentality with developers

Mostly though I think it's the difficulty of checking the code works fine with every permutation possible.  Most games limit you to where you might be and what you might have plus what AI needs to cope with at any given time whereas open world titles really have to handle what feels almost like a magnitude of extra difficulty in this regard.

Look on the bright side - often the bugs and glitches give rise to some pretty funny stuff.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Well I couldn`t play Fallout 3 for a few weeks due to a bug, luckily Bethesda fixed that problem with a lovely update and I suffered no further probems.  Even with that bloody bug its still one of my favourites games this gen. :)
