Activision needs to go out of business. They are milking the call of duty franchise like there is no tomorrow and they will never stop.

No company deserves that, lots of jobs will be lost.

I'm not trying to downplay Guitar Heroes. They are a huge publisher and deserve to be on any list. But VGChartz is undertracking Metal Gear Solid 4 by at least 50%, and they still admit it's sold almost 5 million copies. That's a huge cash cow for Sony, especially since they didn't even have to pay to develop or publish the game.

It's crazy that Sony has no cash cow. I guess theirs is coming up soon.

No sims in EA means fail. Not only does it sell like 15 million games each iteration, but they've sold bazillions of expansion packs and since most of the sales are on pc it doesn't have the hardware manufacturer getting a cut. I think that should move them up the list.

Its the 3rd biggest gaming series in terms of sales afterall.

Beyond that it seems pretty good.

EDIT I'd also add popcaps Bejeweled to the list (or at least mention it), its on nearly every platform and has sold more then 25 million copies (50 million is you count Blitz and Twist, no idea if the figure I saw included the sequel but it doesn't appear so). Since its a very simply 2d puzzler the development cost must have been tiny.

Every franchise that consistently sells 1 million or so units with each iteration with little to no change in the formula.

So every franchise current gen gamers love.
