Oh yes it did break the 2 million barrier. Ask Metroid Prime.

I think Reggie WOULD KNOW MORE THAN YOU, no offense.  The original Metroid Prime numbers are bloated beyond reason.  Some of the contributing factors are  1) It's a launch title 2) It was given away as a free game at retail as part of Nintendo's promotion to sell GCN 3)It was bundled together with the gamecube to launch Echoes 4) IT BECAME A PLAYERS CHOICE which means it sold at retail for a few years at budget price in contrast to the others!!!

1. Metroid Prime was not a launch title, it launched in 2002.

2. It was never given away as a free game, though it was included in one particular bundle.

3. Yes.

4. It is not the only game to become a player's choice in this serie.s

Metroid Prime still shattered the 2 million barrier. Super Metroid is not even clsoe to the best-selling Metroid. The first one beats it into the ground, for starters, and Metroid Fusion (which released at roughly the same time as Prime) also outsold it. Hell, so did Corruption unless my memory is faulty.

A limited time optional bundle doesn't explain the sales discrepancy here. Your original position, that Super Metroid is the most successful Metroid, is indefensible. There are three or four games in the franchise that have outsold it handily.

From the interviewer "It is likely that Reggie is referring to North American sales alone", presumably that was what it seemed in context, especially since Metroid regularly reaches 1.5 million worldwide.

Please there's no way he expected it to do that much in NA alone, if it will be the most underperfoming game of the gentat

That's just the author's translation of the video interview.  When I actually watched it I had a diffrent view of the interview starting at 2:55 this is said: “Metroid is a key franchise, and in our view really since the SNES Metroid, we haven’t broken through in terms of 1.5 - 2 millions units. That’s our bar. That’s the scale that we look at to say on a global basis this is effective.”

To me that means that number is the goal Nintendo hopes to achieve to expand Metroid franchise in the future.  Either with this game or the next Metroid; however it is only the goal to EXPAND the franchise as it has not broken that number since the SNES days which is the era of Nintendo's summit of success !!!

I think NCL official numbers of shipped and sold through copies of the game are more than enough, they don't to lie to investors do they? You need to research at least a minuscule bit if you want to argue. Use facts not fanboysim.

Also, going by your logic, Wii Sports only sold about 4 million

I posted my links to where I believe the bloat of the original Prime came from...so yes I did A BIT of research!!! IF I WAS using Fanboyism I would be defending those original Prime numbers  instead of questioning them.  Honestly, Metroid HAS NEVER BEEN A HUGE SELLER!!! Even Reggie said that, and I think he knows more about Nintendo's current expectations than you, right?  Wii Sports numbers in VGC also include the bundle...do you think the game sold 80M units by itself at retail?  That would be ludicrous!!!  NCL official numbers are the number of copies pressed and shipped to retailers (bundle included)  not actua retail sales.  If that was the case MH:Tri would be over 2M instead of 1.65 that VGC has listed

Wrong, MHTri numbers include bundles.

Also, Nintendo counts every copy as sold, regardless of if it's bundled or not, you should do some research seriously.

You just proved me right NINTENDO COUNTS EVERY COPY even those given away for FREE!!! Easier to bloat numbers if they are given at no cost!!!  Yes MH:tri inclues bundles in VGC numbers but VGC take into account SHIPPED numbers but sales to actual consumers!!!

Don't condescend to people in this topic, especially when you're wrong.

Profitability isn't the only thing that determines whether or not Nintendo might back off of a series for a while. They expected Other M to double the sales of Corruption - essentially matching the first Metroid Prime, and even surpassing it.

Source? I read this a lot, but whats your source?

And Team Ninja never sold more than 2 Mio, correct me, if I´m wrong...

I can only repeat myself: Let´s wait and see if this game will have some legs.... Because I think it Will AND it will reach 1 Mio....

STILL WAITING FOR THE LINK THAT SAID IT WILL SURPASS PRIME....WAITING!!!

But Metroid was something new, after many years without a metroid... And now Other M needs to find his audience, like Prime did... THIS NEEDS TIME!

I don´t know why people believe, that a franchise, that only sold 2 times more than 2 Mio and a developer, that never sold more than 2 Mio units....Why do you think, that nintendo expecteg this game to reach 2 - 3 Mio units sold?  A bad transleted interview is your only source?  Sure, they wanted to increase the fanbase, but nintendo doesn´t become blind over night. I´m convinced they considered OM wouldn´t sale much more than 1,2 Mio (like Echoes). And they don´t expected it to sell like mario or zelda now.... So why do you do this?

Fortunately, people in germany and poland like this game much more ^^

What textual evidence do you have for your own claim of their expectations, and why are you willing to dismiss an actual interview?

Really, so are you now dictating my position?  Funny thing about fanboyism is that they tend to twist your words around and that's why I refrain from you Khuutra since I've been observing you for a while.  Let's see my position is that the game is doing fine and making a nice profit!  Reggie stated that Super Metroid was the most succesful console Metroid to come out since that time and none has sold more than 1.5-2M which is what Nintendo is aiming for.  Which is a modest goal seeing the Metroid series is really not a big seller!!! MP sales are bloated and I have already linked it to sites stating the reason for this.  Still waiting for the link though that you said Reggie expected Other M to beat the original Prime.  I hope you find it if it even excisted...I very much doubt it though!!!

Oh boy.

Of course you realize that if Super Metroid is the most successful Metroid then outselling its numbers (a cool 1.5 million or so) would mean outselling Metroid Prime - in fact, that would be reflexive, wouldn't it? By your own position you acknowledge the validity of that claim.

I can't find a statement where he names Metroid Prime specifically, but the statement you continue to cite illustrates that he wanted Other M to break the sales barrier that Metroid never has in the US - and yes, that would include the original Prime. The point is proven for me.

Sales being "bloated" means absolutely nothing. A sale is a sale is a sale is a sale. Metroid Prime was owned by more people than any other Metroid, period, end of discussion.
