I dunno OP, Donkey Kong Country sold Numerous SNES systems when I was a little kid. People tried out the Donkey Kong Demos at Toys R US (before EB was big) when testing between the SNES and Genesis and ended up choosing the SNES Donkey Kong bundle. I expect the Wii to sell 5 M copies of Donkey Kong. I also expect with the new Lineup of games for the Wii to sell millions consoles more this holiday season.

I get what you're saying, and I agree, but I would like to point out that no one beat more than half their NES games. The games did everything they could to make sure that you never saw the end credits: lots of them didn't even have an ending beyond "Good job! Play again?"
