The biggest problem with the PSP is that it is something of a hardcore hand held, so much so that it doesn't appeal to many hardcore gamers. Sure, Ratchet and Clank on the PSP will be good, but why should I play it instead of than R&C games I already own on my PS2? And thats the case with many of the PSP's games, a simplified version of whats on the consoles with no real reason to play them over their no hand held brethren. By comparison, the DS offers something different that appeals to casual, hardcore and traditionally non gamer types. By way of the dual screens and stylus, it offers something that cannot be had on any other platform and thus offers new and novel experiences, which is something the PSP is seriously lacking. At this point, the PSP has an image problem as well. There is a reason why gaming blogs are consistently swooning over new DS releases and overlooking many of the PSP releases listed here, and all of this isn't helped by the UMD fiasco. Furthermore, price is also a big problem Sony is going to have a hard time overcoming. By the time they hit $150, the DS will be approx $70-80 with a large library of cheaper games to boot. @AmishGramish, the reason I called you a fanboy is because you said the DS has hardly any good games, then went on to list Killzone as a great game for the PSP

Wow I'm surprised at how many people think the PS3 is still going to win overall. I haven't seen this much denial since the N64 era. Hmmm...I really don't like to do predictions for such a long period of time. I mean who leads by the end of 2007 sure, but 2012!? Oh what the hell. Wii 80 miilion 360 65 million PS3 35 million The Wii reminds me of the DS but because of the increased competiton I don't think it will sell quite as well. The 360 sales total will be dragged down by poor Japanese numbers. As for the PS3, it reminds me of the N64 in a lot of ways and I see it fading away over time. "Well, the PS3 is too advanced now, but it will be just right within a year or two. The 360 will be a little outdated, with the Wii collecting dust. These are basically the researching industry's answers, but with a lot fewer explainations. -AmishGramish" Have you actually done any research into the PS3 and 360s chipsets? The PS3 is not the end all be all that Sony claims it to be. All I have to say is read here http://dpad.gotfrag.com/portal/story/35372/?spage=1

Not everybody has big expectations for the PS3. Gabe Newell, the CEO of Valve had this to say: "The PS3 is a total disaster on so many levels, I think It’s really clear that Sony lost track of what customers and what developers wanted. I’d say, even at this late date, they should just cancel it and do a “do over”. Just say, “This was a horrible disaster and we’re sorry and we’re going to stop selling this and stop trying to convince people to develop for it". http://www.news4gamers.com/wii/News-19923.aspx It seems to me that the analysts haven't paid enough attention for the point of view of game makers. It's really hard and expensive to program games for the PS3, and what's most important, the install base is so small that making exclusive games for PS3 is a real gamble. Few flops and a game studio finds itself in a financially tough situation.

You should all come up with three scenarios for each Hardware manufacturer...best, expected, worst case sceario 2012 Best Case Scenario Nintendo Wii: Japan 25 Million North America 25 million Others 25 million 75 million PS3 Japan 15 million North America 20 million Others 15 million 50 million 360 North America 30 million Others 30 million Japan 2 million 62 million Expected: Wii: Japan 15-20 million N.A. 15-20 million Others 12-15 million 39-55 million PS3 Japan 6-11 million N.A. 11-16 million Others 10-13 million 27-40 million 360 Japan 1 million N.A. 20-25 million Others 14-16 million 35-42 million Worst Case Scenario 360 Japan 500k N.A. 10-13 million Others 6-7.5 million 16.5-21 million Wii Japan 5-6 N.A. 5-8 million Others 4-6 million 14-20 million PS3 Japan 4-5 million Others 2-4 million N.A. 6-8 million 12-17 million I see North America in the expected range for Wii, 360. PS3, 360, and Wii in the expected range for Japan. 'Others' is worst case for PS3 i think. Best Case for 360 in Others. Wii is expected in Others. PS3 fits expected in North America...but I can see it changing quick. All of this assumes no one rips off the Wii controller...

The top 3 factors that consumers take into consideration in no particular order are 1. games 2. price 3. backwards compatibility (the idea that people will want the system everyone else has puts the chicken before the egg so to spreak) The PS3 will have 1. the most games, covering the most genres, and the best graphics among multiplatform games 2. the highest price 3. by far the most comprehensive backwards compatibility both in terms of systems supported and number of games supported. I may be guilty of spin by saying DVD and Blu-Ray support may be factored in here as well. The Wii will have 1. the most original games and the most classic titles (virtual console) but with the worst graphics by far 2. the most attractive price point 3. good backwards compatibility compared to Xbox 360, but bad compared to PS3*. XBOX 360 will have 1. strong shooters and sports titles, the best online experience, and comparatively weak support among Japanese software developers. I am also going to go out on a limb and say this system will have the most original IP's 2. a better price than ps3, but you have to pay for online 3. the worst backwards compatibility Factor in their 100 USD/100 EUR/50 GBP/10,000 yen price cuts during this year and the PS3 will have a strong year. * In my opinion virtual console games do not count as backwards compatible. The system technically does not play nes, genesis, snes, turbo grafix 16 and n64 cartidges. If you want to play these games on Wii they need to be purchased separately, even if you already own the games.

Lifetime Sales Prediction - 6/29/2013
Wii U - 38 million
XBOX One - 88 million
Playstation 4 - 145 million

Well I am really bad on this kind of estimations so I just want to say some simple things about the markets. USA: I do actuly think that the american market will be a fight between ps3 and xbox360 early on. Wii will run on the side and might surpas one of the competition, but they need to get out some good games asap. I do think that Microsoft will be abel to defend their lead against both Wii and ps3, mostly because they seam to pump in a lot of money to win, and with games like Gears of War, Halo 3, GTA and guitarr hero I do think they have a lot of games that the american public like. Japan: Wii all the way IF they succed to get the brain age generation to the stores. I do think we will se the Wii to outsell the ps3 in japan for a long time. The xbox360 will be last but will reach higher sells than the xbox. Europe: Here I think the ps3 needs a price cut fast. Here in Sweden we will pay 6500 SEK for a ps3 that is roughly 900 USD. The xbox360 is selling for 3000 SEK, which is a little more than 400 USD. Which consol would you buy? The Wii will do better than the GC at least, to mush hype in news paper for that consol to fail. More important is that I do think that HD-tv is more common in USA and Japan than over here. So Wii might suprice a lot of people. Just my opinion...

As far as I can remember the PS3 was losing support left and right. Not to mention an extremely large string of bad press from the media AND people high up in the industry. As for the graphics, yes the Wii will have the weakest of the 3, but that doesn't mean they won't be attractive and good looking. Just not AS pretty as the 360 or PS3 could dish out. As for the PS3, that thing is beyond difficult to program/develop for. It takes a lot of effort for a system to reach its full potential. I mean, the only reason why we saw such great visuals from the PS2 was because there were SO many people developing on it they found out how to fully optimize the hardware. With the PS3 they won't have nearly as much support as they did on the PS2 and it will be even more difficult to program for. I somewhat agree with you on the backwards compatibility thing. I don't fully consider the VC as backwards compatible, but it does have the GC games going for it. However, have you seen the supposed PS3 backwards compatibility? Watch this and tell me the PS3 has great backwards compatibility.

I know of no developer who is scaling back PS3 development. "The dreamcast has better games, the dreamcast has better graphics, the dreamcast has more vram, the dreamcast has 4 controllers and a built in modem and ps2 doesn't,the ps2 is too difficult to develop for. That was what the press were reporting at the beginning of the ps2 and look what became of that system. Interesting, though I tried reading through the comments to see if it was the consensus or simply tampered with. Unfortunately a bunch of idiots posted in the forum and it wasn't clear. Either way backwards compatibility works two ways. People will buy the ps3 system because they already have psx, ps2 games. Neither of the other systems can play them at all. It appears that wii has better backwards compatibility if this link can be trusted, however there are fewer games to play and fewer people who have gamecube games to play in the first place.

By 2012: 360: 65(ish)M wii: 60(ish)M Ps3: 35(ish)M Why? The Wii has new appeal, reasonable pricing (and the bigN is pulling a profit off of every system, so when the initial rush dies down, a price drop isn't out of the question), and believe it or not, people enjoy playing it. WiFi connection, being free, begs for mass multiplayer games (hopefully N plans to cash in on this [our gain is their gain, after all ]). Mario, Metroid, Smash, and the Wiimote. Xbox 360- Xbox Livel. Roughly $60 American a year for unlimited online multiplayer is paltry. The 360's inevitalbe price drop will rack up more systems sold, and it's popularity keeps developers working on new projects. Ps3- As someone said before, it's Sony. A great number of people will buy the Ps3 because it's the Ps2's successor. No doubt, several announced original Ps3 titles have mass appeal, simply because, well, they're sequels to past-gen games. Because of the Wii's mysterious appeal, and the 360's overall success, fewer ground-breaking titles will see life on the Ps3. A price drop is out of the question any time soon, because of outrageous development costs for the Ps3. Why not numbers larger than this? I think people will still be playing their Ps2's. I really doubt that any Next gen console will see the Ps2's success matched. (DS may surprise us!)
