Forums - Sony - Will The Momentum For PS3 Exclusives Continue For 2011? I Think So

I'm checking now...

And it took Gears 2, releasing in a VERY big Month for Videogames, 4 Weeks to reach 3 Million units sold.

And i was right about Zelda too, by the way. Actually, only 3 of the games in the series have reached over 5 Million units. So could you do your "averages" for the Zelda games too?

Then can you show me the blockbuster games confirmed to be releasing next year for ANY console, please?

360 = Gears of War 3 - Average of 5.75 million per game, opening 2 days was 2 million for the last on, I expect that to be flat given the different time of year of release

wII = Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword -  No stats required, it's Zelda

3DS - Whatever Nintendo wants, I haven't paid much attention to the 3DS lineup, but Nintendo always has some thing so far beyond excess on their handhelds...5 million is too low really.

Multi - CoD, Potentially GTA too if announced.

No Gears game has ever sold over 3 Million in a week, and Gears 2 has sold less than Gears 1. The sales of the series are declining. So no. Not a "blockbuster".

No Zelda game has ever sold over 3 Million week one (correct me if I'm wrong), so no. Again, by your description... Not a "Blockbuster".

3DS, you didn't even name a game. The only game i can see hitting 3 Million in a week is a Pokemon game. But... Pokemon Black/White is for the DS... Not the 3DS... Sooo...

COD - Yes. Easily. Within the first hour of being on sale. That gives us 2 Blockbusters.

GTA - No idea if one is even releasing yet.

So... Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Pokemon Black & White. 2 Blockbusters releasing next year. Only one of them is exclusive to a platform.

Silly boy. 5 million LTD and 3m week one are not mutually exclusive qualifyers.

Yes. They are. They must be, otherwise you wouldn't have mentioned them.

Are you seriously saying that a game that sells 3 Million in a week, but only manages 4 Million lifetime is a blockbuster? But for other games they have to reach 5 Million?

Sounds stupid. But hey. There is no guarantee that Gears 3 or Zelda: Skyward Sword will reach 5 Million sales. So it doesn't really matter. As i said, Gears is declining in sales, and Gears 2 has been negatively recieved by a LOT of Gears 1 fans.

Zelda, is going to have a REALLY tough time reaching that 5, looking at your "Averages" thing.

No they are not. It could do 3m 1st week and reach up to 4.99m in the long term and the overall effect of a 5M BB would be around the same. It would make up for it's relatively smaller stature with a fantastic opening.

There are no guarentees in anything. Just patterns. The last few Gears games and Zelda games on Wii sold really well and around the blockbuster threshold . Maybe if this were another generation on another system we should hold different expectations, but it's safer to bet on them then to not. If there's are not the more safer of bets, little else would be.

Well I would not be so sure yet. You know the things going to go up once they start the inevitable trilogy bundle. Even without, if we're looking at a similar "decline"between 2 and 3, Epic is as safe as houses with #3.

Or a ridiculously easy time if OOT, MM, WW, TP Wii are any indication.

No blockbusters?

Define "blockbuster"?

5 million sales minimum ltd.

3 million week one.

Sooo....the only blockbuster games this gen have been GTA4, Halo 3 and MW2? I'm pretty sure those are the only ones that have done even close to 3 million in week 1.

poor RAZurrection...trying to justify its choice by downplaying the competition....how sad is that? =/

it's ok RAZ, it's not your fault that Sony's bought Naughty Dog...it's not your fault that you can't play Uncharted 2...at least you have Fable 2, and Milo and Kate.

/TrollFunctionOff.

probably, the 2011 for Ps3 will be bigger than this year...

I'm Back! - Proud owner of the best doomed handheld of all time!

Is there any evidence behind Uncharted 3 being made?

I like the series, but having Naughty Dog / any good developer tied up with one IP the entire gen (or 3 games in a row) is kind of "meh." I wish they'd switch things up more often, see something new.

I don't think there's any evidence at this point, but if you're going by track record then the game is already on its way.

Ha, yeah, I was looking at that. With a cycle like that, it's no wonder Sony has so few (edit: big name) IP's.

Just looking at Donkey Kong Country Returns, for example, it makes me wonder what kind of games we could've gotten from Retro instead of Metroid Prime 2/3. No offense to MP fans, but, that's a potential (good) Star Fox, F-Zero or something else right there...

Of course, PS3 will get its best exclusive since MGS4 in 2011, Final Fantasy Versus XIII. (unless MGS5 launches in 2011 of course).

You mean unless they port MGS5: Peace Walker to PS3? That would be cool.
