Forums - Sony - The Final Fantasy Versus XIII Hype Thread (With lots of info!)

Yes, now that I can create new threads again, I decided to create this one to Hype Final Fantasy Versus XIII :D

I have been looking for as much info on Final Fantasy Versus XIII as I could on the internet... and I've found some very interesting articles!

This is the most interesting one (In my opinion) because it describes a Final Fantasy Versus XIII Trailer that was shown on Jump Festa and that no one, besides the people at Jump Festa, has ever seen :O In the article they talk about a new Outfit for Noctis, a huge improvement of In-Game graphics (compared to Final Fantasy XIII and the previous Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailers) and day and night Cycles :O

If they had that at Jump Festa, I really don't understand why they didn't show it at E3 :S... but enough talking, here is the article!

New Final Fantasy Versus XIII Trailer Debuts at Jump

Main character Noctis makes a fashion statement with his shoes.

With the Tokyo Game Show and now Jump Festa, it seems that Square Enix has abandoned the "Closed Mega Theater" concept that has been a fixture of its booths as far back as I remember (my first Jump Festa eight years ago had the theater, complete with special Square Enix greeting cards handed out to visitors).

At TGS, in place of the Closed Mega Theater, visitors to the Square Enix booth were treated to the top trailers after playing either Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep or Final Fantasy XIII. This trailer showing was different from the footage airing in the public open theater at the front of the booth.

At Jump, Square Enix had the same system in place, but the order was reversed. Those waiting in line to get into the Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep demo area were able to view trailer footage on two large screens. I prefer this method, as due to the wait time, I was able to watch the trailer footage three times!

The line was behind a large Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep screen and could only be accessed by those who had received a ticket handed out earlier in the day, so it had the feel of a privileged closed door session. The doors weren't closed too tightly, though. I'm not sure if Square Enix realized it, but you could sorta see the footage through the screen:

http://www.andriasang.com/blog/2009/12/20/ffxiii_versus_trailer/2132402370.jpg

Look closely, and you'll see an image from the new Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer. The reel also contained footage of all the expected major Square Enix titles -- Birth by Sleep, Agito XIII, Final Fantasy XIII, and 3rd Birthday. And, of course, the usual warning messages about not taking videos.

Versus XIII was the main attraction, although it was more of a tease than a proper trailer. The footage began with the words "real or fantasy" set against a black background. The "fantasy" lingers for a few seconds as the scene switches to a bright daytime scene of main character Noctis standing on the side of what looks like a highway, leaning against a gate. As a vehicle approaches from the distance, the Versus logo and various bits of latin text flash on the screen. The vehicle stops, and as Noctis gets in, we see brief flashes to past trailers, including an image of heroine Stella in her formal attire. Noctis crosses his legs (this is important -- see below), and the car speeds off into the distance.

The trailer leaves with the phrases "Work in progress" and "Revelation will come next time."

It's just about a minute in length, but there's a lot to take away from the trailer. The car, for instance, is, I believe, the same car that was shown in the early Versus trailers. The car is also driving down a similar highway as depicted in those trailers. The difference here, in addition to the switch to daytime, is that everything is in realtime -- the car's exterior and interior, the roadside, and of course Noctis himself.

You can tell the footage is realtime because the image quality isn't as clean as CG. Aside from that, though, you might not notice the difference. The modeling detail, animation, and particularly the lighting are all first rate.

I mentioned above that Noctis crossing his legs was important. While watching the trailer, I noticed that the soles of his shoes emitted a red glow. This was easily noticeable, as the camera positioning when Noctis enters the car and crosses his leg had the shoe directly facing the camera.

Later, while taking pics of Square Enix's booth, I came across this display of the latest in Versus fashion:

http://www.andriasang.com/blog/2009/12/20/ffxiii_versus_trailer/2132402368.jpg

Look closely at the shoes:

http://www.andriasang.com/blog/2009/12/20/ffxiii_versus_trailer/2132402363.jpg

Notice the red glow from the bottom? The red emitting light is apparently a part of the shoe style.

If you're in the mood, you could probably speculate on how the red glow will fit into the game, either as part of the story (example: the government tracks people by a unique color emitted by their shoes) or as part of the gameplay (example: your shoes emit a unique color depending on the level of your combo attacks).

Or maybe Tetsuya Nomura and clothing designer Roen just decided that having shoes emit a red light would be a cool fashion statement.

The "Revelation will come next time" message at the end of the trailer indicates that we'll soon know so much about Final Fantasy Versus XIII that we'll be able to stop writing about clothing.

Awesome news, right? so much info and details we've never seen :O Let's go on with more "old" news and info :)

You can read what some dude who was at Jump Festa and saw everything tells about the game. I'll copy-paste one of his comments here, to read more go to the link above.

"I got tickets to watch the newest trailers as soon as I got there, and after playing Birth by Sleep demo I was called to watch the things; Well... short trailer and lots of latin words spread across the screen. IIRC I saw something related to Morte (Death) and Stella (Star) and Notte (Night, I guess) but It was too fast for me to pick things and translate them altogether, lol.

Well, the trailer. God, I couldn't believe what I saw there in some aspects, if you guys think Final Fantasy XIII is a artistic masterpiece (if you're playing the game as I am you'll know what I'm talking about; There are some areas where you just let your characters standing still so you can appreciate the view... it's gorgeous.) you'll need too rethink everything... Noctis stading there still, and the city in the background in a bright and sunny day... Jesus Christ It was Unbeliavable the lighting and the character model is just top-notch (and for me it seems they improved his hair polygon count or something like that, b/c it seemed much more real and flowing free than it was in the latest trailer)... also the new clothes do actually fit him!!! (I know everyone is wondering how it does fit him, but rest assured he looks good and ROEN & Nomura both are doing a great job; not sure about the assymetrical clothes though.); As he's stading there waiting for his car he seems a little pissed and calm at the same time or maybe impassive (We don't have a context of what's happening so both possibilies are to be considered; although I still think he's just being "I'm badass and I don't show emotions" so, Impassivity for me.)

Then... you can hear something approaching and then the car is on the screen and stops (This part is beautiful... the lighting here is amazing, just how the car painting is reflecting the sunlight is just something out of this world, especially for a trailer in realtime, but it's Advent Children team we're talking about here, huh? .) Mr. Prince then as impassive as ever (IMO) opens the door and gets in his car, and the flashback of stella in white dress flash on screen before Noctis crosses his legs (the car is same we saw on all previous trailers...I guess it received some touch-ups here and there, but now entirely sure), and crap, I wonder how much time they spent just modeling car's interior because the attention to detail here is as impressive as what I described above and I'm quite sure the interior received some design changes here and there; then the camera cuts for a ackwardly perspective where you can see Noctis new shoes and they glow an orange/red color underneath it, I don't know if it has something to do with his powers (I guess not, since he wasn't in a fight or threatening situation, and from what we saw he "only" uses his powers when in a fight like against Stella or to protect the Crystal from the foreign army and the hodded-guy.) then after we can take a proper look at his brand new glowing shoes the camera cuts for an outside view of his car speeding up quite harshly heading to NihilSomno (City of Empty Dreams, if it's a city at all.) and the screen go black with: Work in Progress (WTH, If what I saw is a work in progress I don't know what to expect from this game anymore! Not to hype anybody up but this is one of the most beautiful games I have ever seen in terms for character/clothes modeling and render and lightning)... this suddenly falls into the dark and "Revelation will come next time" goes big into the screen... and... and... that's it.

I guess it's quite a long post but I just tried to put into perspective what I saw there and dissecate it so that you guys can feel what I felt when seeing this Nomura/ACC Team/KH Team masterpiece (not biased there)... Hope you guys enjoy the read (if you're to read at all!!)

I will happily answer questions from anybody...! I just hope I can answer them before details start fading away xD!

EDIT: Added Bold, Italics & Underline to catch ppl eyes oon the most important parts!"

OMG, the final build of the game must be so good graphically :O I can only imagine what the game looks like! New graphics king? we will have to wait and see for ourselves

:D

Here, some smaller details about the same trailer:

Final Fantasy Versus XIII JF '10 Trailer

So I bet everyone has forgotten that Jump Festa is happening now... I certainly did. It seems like SE has shown a new trailer for this in the closed theater and here are some descriptions of it:

"12.19 09:58 New FFvXIII trailer behind this curtain. I'll watch it after playing KH. Squenix has the same theater setup as TGS. #

12.19 10:10 The Versus trailer just shows the main guy waiting on a highway and then getting picked up by a car, which then speeds off.

12.19 10:11 It's all realtime though and looks stunning, particularly the lighting. The scene is set on a bright day.

12.19 10:13 The short trailer ends, 'revelation will come next time.' Perhaps Versus will show its true form with its next trailer."

And now, some older, less exciting news everyone probably knows about:
TGS 2009: Impressions: Final Fantasy Versus XIII

http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/09/versus13tgs09.jpg

Guess Square Enix lied when they said they weren't going to be showing off Final Fantasy Versus XIII at Tokyo Game Show this year. Once again, the company continued its Closed Theater antics by ... well, having one.

This year's trailer for the still-only-for-PS3 Versus XIII broke the mold of all the previous ones by focusing exclusively on gameplay (gasp!). The trailer is barely a trailer at all, absent of the fancy editing and slick text overlays so common in a Square Enix trailer. Instead, we're treated to handicam footage of the game running off of a TV. The footage isn't particularly interesting: we see Noctis running through many different kinds of environments, such as European-inspired towns to grassy green fields that look like they're ripped straight from Final Fantasy XIII.

Unfortunately, the trailer didn't answer the one question all Square Enix fans have on their minds: what will it play like? Sure, we know he can run, but we'd love to see how this trailer translates to gameplay (if at all!). This secret trailer reveal at TGS did answer one though, though: Versus XIII is actually in development and, from the looks of things, may be farther along than any of us had expected.

Nomura: "Final Fantasy Versus XIII's CGI Cutscenes And Real-Time Graphics Look Identical"
In a recent interview, Square Enix's Tetsuya Nomura revealed that FFXIII's graphics engine has been updated, allowing his team to make Final Fantasy Versus XIII's real-time graphics identical to its CGI cutscenes. Director Tetsuya Nomura has given details in the latest Famitsu magazine, of how Final Fantasy Versus XIII’s graphics engine has been updated: namely to ensure cut-scene CGI and gameplay are identical. Yummy indeed. He also claims the game is set to be the “dark” Final Fantasy people have been waiting for.

World map, airships confirmed for FF Versus XIII

http://bulk2.destructoid.com/ul/168113-versus.jpg

If you are one of the many round eyes who thought Final Fantasy XIII was too linear, then never fear. Final Fantasy Versus XIII' director, Tetsuya Nomura, has confirmed that his contribution to the Fabula Nova Crystallis saga will create a fine illusion of freedom, with a world map and old school airships.

"Not everything is connected together, so the various areas have different levels of progress. However, you can fly across the world map in an air ship," confirms Nomura.

Versus is one of Square Enix's biggest mysteries. We've only seen a few scraps of teaser footage and the occasional screenshot, with very little else to go on in between. From what we can tell, it's set on a totally different world than XIII, only containing a similar theme of humans being in thrall to more powerful beings.

In any case, after my personal disappointment with XIII, I now look to this PS3 exclusive to plug the RPG gap. I really hope Versus can provide a better product so I can carry Square Enix round on a big chair like king of the town.

Source: http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/17/nomura-not-sure-about-final-fantasy-versus-xiii-at-e3-2010/

Nomura 'not sure' about Final Fantasy Versus XIII at E3
As Square Enix developers are prone to do, acclaimed Final Fantasy lead Tetsuya Nomura recently dropped some vague information about one of the handful of Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy XIII games that was announced like, a million years ago (okay, okay -- in 2006). Apparently, due to the display of the world map not being up to snuff, Final Fantasy Versus XIII may not make an appearance at this year's E3.

"We were hoping to debut it at E3, but we're not sure now," Nomura told Famitsu (as relayed by FF-Reunion.net). "For displaying characters on the world map, we were originally planning on using the method used by 'FF#,' with a small Noctus running about on the screen, but that didn't look too great, so we ended up switching to the method used by 'FF#.'" Allegedly, the "#" designations used by Famitsu in the preceding quotation were an effort to mask the particular Final Fantasy installments Nomura was referring to. "Famitsu had to block them out," explained Andriasang.

Nomura also suggested that Versus might be benched for E3 2010 in order to give other Square Enix titles at the show more time in the spotlight. Nomura did not mention Agito XIII in the Famitsu article, but did note that, in terms of other projects, "There are a number of them, along with some for which we need to begin preparations for a reveal." That's right -- forget about finally showing us more of the game that was announced four years ago, bring on Final Fantasy XV!

Final Fantasy Versus XIII To Focus On Story-Driven Gameplay

http://www.pushsquare.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/versusxiii.jpg

During a session at GDC last week, Final Fantasy XIII’s director Motomu Toriyama announced that both Final Fantasy XIII offshoots – Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Final Fantasy Agito XIII – will be aiming to deliver story-driven gameplay.

His GDC keynote seemed to suggest that both titles will take the linear story-telling approach found in Final Fantasy XIII, something we criticised heavily in our review.

The three games are to be tied by the Fabula Nova Crystalis story-arc, where humans are controlled by legendary Gods, the fal’Cie.

Full Final Fantasy Versus XIII Famitsu Scans and Interview

Thankfully we don't have to rely on those awful quality photos of yesterdays Versus gameplay anymore! Now we have a not so awful quality scan of the entire Famitsu article including the fully translated Nomura interview. Read it in it's entirety below.

Is this a real-time screenshot we’re looking? The image quality is very good.
Yes it’s an image in real-time using the real hardware. We aim to improve the quality you’re seeing now even further. As of now we can’t share more details in full scale right now, so we removed the menus and subscreens where it shows Noctis expression (image projected on the subscreen).

Were the party members also there originally?
Yes, we removed because we haven’t formally announced their weapons and clothes yet.

The exquisiteness and shades are like a photograph taken from real life.
Indeed, we’re using physical calculations to determine the movement of the clouds. By this time it allow us to filter sunlight and others on Versus XIII.

Is the cliff to the wilderness & the Gas Station set in the same location?
Yes in the back of the Store is the cliff to the extended wilderness. You can walk all the way, to everything you see but the mountains.

What’s this giant Enemy on the other screen?
It’s a Military Behemoth and he actually bears a huge sword in his back. As for this pictures, the battle screen were on the screen but we omitted it.

Q: The street of Shinjuku is real.
Yes, it’s our model for this, even the bicycle lanes and crosswalks are decipted. But the sense of distance has been changed a bit since the last time. Right out of the city you encounter the wilderness with electric wires every as it’s this kind of territory for this country.

This region, It is only the Prologue, the early stages, nature is so even there.
Movement around this area is easy because you can use a car. Getting on and off the car can be done anytime, but only not possible to go all the way through it because it leads to a region underwater that has been shown on promotional trailers before.

Monsters appear on the field?
(Laughter)…Yes, there are monsters that appear on the field; Some staff were doing the tests and were surprised by how good looking some are in the evening sun.

Are the battles seamless, what about the world?
It’s basically seamless and we aim to make it even more seamless, but there are loadings between big areas.

Information disclosure, is very restrict as of now.
Development is very advanced along and according to expectations we’re taking steady steps; wait at ease please, information on Versus XIII will come. Moreover, we’re making preparations for a Big announcement.

You can actually see a signboard and things written inside in the screenshot?
The signboard is still temporary even though the inside of the Gas Station is modeled after the Stations in the US in detail. It’s possible to go up there using the stairs.

Do you play in this perspective the whole game?
Yes. The camera basically sits in this position. We decided to priority to the character’s presence and the world; that said we decided to scrap the over the shoulder perspective of the world.

Famitsu: Final Fantasy Versus XIII Gameplay Shots Released

It's taken over 4 years but gameplay screenshots of Final Fantasy Versus XIII have finally been released! The screenshots come from the earlier posted Famitsu article which confirms they're running on Playstation 3 hardware.

In the gameplay you can see Noctis in both urban and desert environments showing off the scale of the world Nomura is building as well as the enemies you'll be facing. You can see the images below.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Source: http://finalfantasyversusxiii.net/2010/06/23/new-final-fantasy-versus-xiii-details.html
The upcoming issue of Weekly Famitsu has some new details on Final Fantasy Versus XIII. Next to Nomura waxing lyrical about the game's graphics, we now know that:
-The world is an open field, and you can go everywhere except for the mountains
-You can destroy objects that you find on the road.
-You'll be able to use a car as promised. You can exit it and move on foot at any time as well.
- Enemies will be visible on the field, and while some enemies are wandering around, others will suddenly appear and surprise you. (This clarifies what the random and visible comment meant, and it also confirms that game will be similar to FFXII in that sense.)

Screenshots in the magazine (yet to surface) are, according to Nomura, running on PS3 hardware, yet they conveniently lack any icons and menus because the game is a monstrous secret.

Meanwhile, GameInformer ran a tidbit about the game going multiplat. We'll see how that develops.

Yoko Shimomura on Versus XIII

Along with the latest Versus XIII news, Yoko Shimomura, who is known for composing the music for Kingdom Hearts franchise, shared a little bit of info about the music for Versus XIII.

"The development staff is currently forming a framework for the game's music. Shimomura noted that they have to be careful about making too firm an image, as the music may then not end up fitting with the game. They're currently considering the possibilities for many different music types, a phase of development that she enjoys.

She said that reading all the passionate message about Versus XIII on blogs and so-forth, she understands how anticipated the game is."

Final Fantasy Versus XIII Story Finalized

Final Fantasy Versus XIII was first made public in 2006. Square Enix has shown screenshots and trailers. And now, Versus XIII's designer is happy to report, the game's story is finished.

In an interview in the recent issue of Dengeki magazine, it was revealed that the scenario for the game is apparently fleshed out and finalized. This actually shouldn't come as a surprise as the details of the story aren't the heavy lifting, but rather, the actual game programming.

The character designs have also been finalized, and the clothing designs are finished.

Keep in mind that the development of Final Fantasy XIII redirected resources from Versus XIII. So while Square Enix revealed Final Fantasy Versus XIII, the company still had to get Final Fantasy XIII out the door first.

Last year, Nomura said that development on the title was going "well", and the developers were working on various lighting tests for the game.

Tetsuya Nomura Provides Final Fantasy Versus XIII Status Update
Voice casting now underway for much anticipated Final Fantasy XIII sister project.
US, August 9, 2010

Does it seem like you've been waiting ages for Final Fantasy Versus XIII? Well guess what? You have!

But progress is definitely being made on the game. Director Tetsuya Nomura shared a slight update on Versus and its sister project Final Fantasy Agito XIII The 3rd Birthday official Twitter earlier today.

First, some bad news. If you were expecting a Versus XIII update from this month's GamesCom, you can end that hope right now. Nomura confirms that the game will not be shown at the European event. Square Enix will be focusing on The 3rd Birthday and Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded.

So how about September's Tokyo Game Show? Nomura didn't comment on TGS. This does sound like a safe bet to us, though! Of course, Versus would be in good company as it's looking like The Last Guardian is going to be at the show as well.

Nomura provided somewhat of a hint at development progress on Versus and Agito. Said Nomura, "Agito and Versus have different production styles and progress states, but they're both presently undergoing voice casting. The 3rd Birthday's recording will end shortly. Next up is Agito."

Nomura is presumably referring here to the games' Japanese voice casting. In previous Twitter comments about The 3rd Birthday's voice recording, he expressed the opinion that voice direction is difficult unless recording is done first in Japanese.

Regarding Versus, Nomura said that there is a lot to announce about the game, but due to Square Enix's policy of promoting games in the order of their release, he's unable to say too much at present.

He provided just one intriguing bit, though: "There have been many questions regarding fields. It's not a completely open world. It's like the 2D FF games in HD. Although, in terms of looks, it's not a top-down view, it's like the screenshots that have been released. You'll move through the world from that view."

Unless you have access to Dengeki PlayStation or Weekly Famitsu (or have seen scans floating around somewhere), you've probably not seen the screenshots Nomura is referring to, as Square Enix has yet to share them online. We provided impressions of the screenshots (yes, only a Final Fantasy game could possibly get impressions of screenshots), but Nomura's point is that the game will have a third person view from behind the back of main character Noctis.

So why the comparison to the 2D FF games of old? You'll have speculate about that in the comments.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII might miss 2011

Final Fantasy Versus XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase has said during Gamescom that Square Enix “cannot commit” themselves to a 2011 release date on the upcoming PlayStation 3 RPG.

When GamingUnion asked Kitase whether or not we’d see the RPG by 2011, he responded:

“We have no release date information to update. Unfortunately we can’t say anything about that. We can’t commit ourselves to 2011 either.”

Of course, he could only be saying this for company reasons. Final Fantasy XIII’s release date was surely a shock – December last year in Japan. Perhaps they’re planning the same for Versus XIII? Or perhaps I’m just being too optimistic?

Nomura Tweets about FF XIII going multiplatform in Japan

Final Fantasy Versus XIII Director, Tetsuya Nomura decided to respond to angry fans on twitter about VERSUS platform status after the recent announcement of "Final Fantasy XIII for Xbox 360 in Japan" just take a look below at what he has to say about it:

Quote: "Multiplatform is when you start development on a game with the assumption of optimizing for multiple platforms. Porting is something that's done after you've developed a game specifically for a particular platforms. The debate over porting is decided by the management based off the current market and the costs. All I can say right now as a developer is that Versus is being developed specifically for the PlayStation 3."

TGS Impressions of Final Fantasy Versus XIII footage shown

FINAL FANTASY VERSUS XIII FINAL FANTASY AGITO XIII
08:38p: Footage of Final Fantasy Versus XIII is being shown on the floor, it looks similar to Kingdom Hearts.
08:38p: The car that Noctis rides in has been changed from before.
09:28p: Apparently, a press conference concerning the Fabula Nova Crystallis series (Versus/Agito), will happen on January 11, 2011. [Thanks, Lissar!]
10:46p: Agito XIII footage shown of characters riding on chocobos on a large field. [Source]
10:46p: Versus XIII footage shows Noctis running around a wasteland, and he comes to a ruined city and fights a Behemoth. [Source]
11:17p: “The field in Versus is beautiful, and there was even a scene with him jumping of a cliff. In the fighting scene Noct was walking around and a Behemoth appeared in front of him. He pulled out his sword and sliced it. The action was seamless.” [Source.]
11:21p: “Agito was too short. Mostly fighting. There are now people wearing red school uniforms that are different from what we’ve seen before. You can probably change characters’ costumes.” [Source.]
01:41a: We have a summary of the Agito XIII footage shown as well from Famitsu: “In Agito, the Byakko Army is marching (they have a tiger, so this is probably who it is.) They seem to be going to war. A spider-legged war machine clings to the wall of a building, and you can see the character(s?) you control on the ground casting magic, giving you the impression of both technology and fantasy. In battle they show the status bars of three characters at a time, and it shows that you can cast Fire or Wall with different button presses, like in the last trailer. You can also see a chocobo running across a field.” [Source.]
01:46a: And in Versus the scene that was shown during E3’10 with the main character Noctis fighting a Behemoth is now revealed in movie form. The battle is played out on a road that looks like Shinjuku, and the quality is so high that it makes you wonder if you’ll actually be able to control this battle. The blood spurting from the Behemoth and Noctis’s movements are very fantastic and yet realistic at the same time. In battle it looks as though Noctis disappears for a moment (but it was too fast and the details are as yet unknown.)[Source.]

We weren’t expecting much from this years Tokyo Game Show but for the hundredth time, any kind of official news for Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Final Fantasy Agito XIII has been delayed. Instead of once again being disappointed this time around though, we have a guarantee we’ll finally see something worth while soon.

A source at TGS has revealed that although the games have a minor presence there, they will actually be getting an entire “Fabula Nova Crystallis Conference” where new media will most likely be revealed. The conference which is taking part in January should hopefully answer our prayers. Hopefully it won’t just be press only.

Nomura Shares a Few Final Fantasy Versus XIII Bits at Twitter

The director has been checking up on battles, events and maps.

Tetsua Nomura got into one of those moods earlier today and made a few posts about Final Fantasy Versus XIII at The 3rd Birthday Twitter.

Wrote Nomura, "Yesterday, we had meetings about three sections -- maps, events and battles. For the map section, I checked the problem areas that had been fixed. The staff had gone beyond the requests and and filled them with playful elements. I put in orders for additional areas as well."

Nomura's got a bit specific about what he was checking on the maps:

  • The look of a forest that you can see once you've cleared a narrow mountain path.
  • Things that are required when leaving the city by moving on the roofs of buildings.
  • The positioning of the bookshelves in shops
  • How flags are standing
  • How the sea is handled on the world map
  • The roads you can see from the air ship
  • The length of bridges

Regarding events, Nomura said he can't say too much without providing spoilers. He's checking such things as:

  • The look on a character during a short cut in a scene where he or she is leaving.
  • Explanation of a fathers feelings during a conversation scene.
  • The areas that they want to have connected seamlessly, and the areas that they want to connect via cuts.
  • Explanations about the heroines movements.

For both of these areas, Nomura was attempting to convey that the check work goes down to detailed levels.

Regarding battles, Nomura checked up on menu areas yesterday. "We're doing lots of trial and error on this. When you say Final Fantasy, you think of enemy damage figures flying out and showing player HP. What will we do with these in the action-heavy Versus?"

Outside of the direct Versus XIII bits, Nomura provided an update about future Twitter activity. Dissidia won't be getting its own Twitter, he said. They're currently looking at the possibility of opening up Twitter feeds for FF Agito XIII and Versus XIII, although he noted that if these existed they would probably be closer to the Kingdom Hearts Twitter where, unlike The 3rd Birthday Twitter, there wouldn't be as many comments from the development staff.

Doing the same thing as this guy. But not to read the info already posted.  But to stay in touch with the thread as new infos are posted, and to discuss everything related to the game. :P

Can't wait for S-E to get their act together and release something more substantial.

Lol, why don't you read the info? :P at least read the first article, It talks about Noctis' new clothe's style, some weird red light on his shoes, night and day cycles in-game and an amazing in-game graphic's improvement over Final Fantasy XIII :P

I hadn't read that article before... and after reading it, it got me hyped :P
