Forums - Sales - Realistically, how much of an impact will the new Twisted Metal have?

I find it quite laughable really that people call it a big franchise. The last game sold in the 2m bracket with 140m consoles to sell to. It sold something like 200k outside the US

The game has had recent releases which people for some reason seem to be ignoring. It had in 08 Twisted Metal Head on Twisted Edition, and in 05 the orgional. The one in 08 got a mighty 73% on metacritic. Both combined didn't even get over a million units. The last proper TM was Black on the PS2 in 2001. A game that was excellent. It was better then the previous 4. But it bombed sales wise. The sales figures on here have it just over a million.

The game will probably sell 3m max if it get's bundled with a few consoles like Motorstorm was.

But it's sales don't matter, what matters is that it improves over the version they released 2 years ago as that sucked bad.

The 2008 game was a direct PS2 port of the generally well received PSP version. It also contained a small playable version of the cancelled Twisted Metal: Black 2. It definitely didn't "suck bad."

old games have very inaccurate sales. vgchartz never even existed then.

Obviously if you didn't think it was a big surprise, it's cause you're not a fan of the series.  For me that was a great finish and it was my favorite surprise of E3.

yea it was for the sony fans

I was a big fan of the Twisted Metal franchise back in the day, but it's been so long, and i can't really see myself getting into a destructive car racer now that i'm older.

Maybe it was a bad case of nostalgia? Sometimes we beg for old franchises to make a return, but when they do we regret it. That's how i feel about Twisted Metal now...it felt old...like i outgrew it, or it served it's time. Very mixed reaction for me to see it again.

Time for hype

Around the Network

The point of Twisted Metal is simple Sony is producing what looks to be another borderline AAA title only available on PS3.

Which would elevate their AAA contenders (MetaScore of 80 ) to include

Motorstorm Series 82 Metascore Avg.
Resistance Series 86.5 Metascore Avg.
Infamous 85 Metascore
God of War Series 92 Metascore Avg. AAA
Little Big Planet 95
Metascore Avg. AAA
Uncharted Series 92 Metascore Avg. AAA
Ratchet and Clank Series 84 Metascore Avg.
Warhawk 84 Metascore
Modnation Racers 82 Metascore
Killzone 2 91 Metascore AAA

With Infamous 2, LBP2, Killzone 3, Sly Cooper Collection, and the Last Guardian in production Twisted Metal would provide yet another 1st party bankable IP.

Leaving them Jak and Daxter and Syphon Filter to fall back on.

Compare this list to Microsoft's AAA contender 1st party IP's and you can see why it important for Sony to continue adding diversity

Microsoft List
Halo Series 86.33 Metascore Avg. With Halo 3 being AAA
Gears Series 93.5 Metascore Avg. AAA
Forza Series 91 Metascore Avg. AAA
Viva Pinata Series 83 Metascore Avg.
Perfect Dark Series 80 Metascore Avg.
Fable 2 89 Metascore
Crackdown 83 Metascore
Alan Wake 82 Metascore

So as you can see they need more to remain on top

72% on metacritic, seems i wasen't the only one who thought it wasen't that great.

I'm really pumped as I'm sure a lot of people are.

TM:B is consistently called one of the top ps2 games.

^ agreed. even gran turismo 5's release date was a bigger announcement. infamous 2 also was another minor little title that won't even reach 1.5m copies. sometimes i wonder what kind of mindset sony has when they cap off a show.

Wanna bet on that cowboy ?

Why are you so negative ? Are you following Darth's philosophy of intentionally under-predicting to act surprised afterwards

Surprised you're not used to it, it's typical behavior from him. As for darth, it's hard to hate on him, he enjoyed HEAVY RAIN!

OT: Hardcore, old-school PlayStation fans will eat it up, but it may not have a huge impact on the system. Then again, I don't think that's it's purpose, people have just wanted a new game in the series. Now they'll get it.

Where's my Legend of Dragoon sequel?  People have been waiting for that longer than they have twisted metal.  They haven't even put the original legend of dragoon up on psn so I can play it on my psp but they have released a original twisted metal title on the psp that got ported to the ps2 just 2 years ago.

People seem to come up with this argument over and over and over again even though it fails over and over and over again

MGS4 outsells MGS3

God of War III is looking to outsell the previous GoW games

DMC4, RE5, FFXIII are looking to outsell/have sold more than their predecessors.

I'm sure you can find many more examples for this.

The 200k outside of US is outdated.

It doesn't matter if the recent versions, developed by different devs from the original, sucked...this is a re-boot of the franchise by the original series creator and legend David Jaffe.

I'm pretty sure this game is gonna deliver. The nuke gameplay mode @ E3 looked extremely awesome.

And the live action trailer gave me the chills.
