No. They're trying to rebrand the PSP now, and it's not going to work particularly well, but the console is profitable and still sells respectable numbers, so there's no need to discontinue it.

When the 3DS launches, if PSP sales slow down significantly, then they should discontinue it. But if everybody discontinued their product when a "superior" competitor launched, we'd never have seen SoTC, God of War II and RE4 on PS2

No way. They're releasing an extremely strong line up of JRPG's on the PSP:

- Parasite Eve: 3rd Birthday.

- Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep.

- Phantasy Star Portable 2.

- SMT: Persona 3 Portable. 

- Valkyria Chronicles 2.

- Final Fantasy Agito XIII.

So nope. They really shouldn't do that

Hmm this reminds me of all the topics how Sony should drop console bussiness and go to being 3rd party like sega from 2007-2008 ;)

And since they can't compete with DS iron grip on casual market they do only logical thing left - go after hardcore gamers.

Didn't they already try that on the PS3? If I remember correctly the PS3's main purpose was to kill off HD-DVD and make Blu-Ray the de facto high defintion format for porn movies.
