There are different ways in comparing prices with the motion control options from the three consoles, but in the end, the Wii comes bundled with a one player option for $200, and none of the other two even approach that. As a new owner looking for a motion setup, the Wii is unmatched in price. After that, Kinect and Move both have their price advantages depending on certain scenarios (supposing a $149 price point for Kinect).

Base investment-Advantage Move

2-4 player investment-Advantage Kinect

They seem to be wildly different in their approach and demographics though, so it's hard to say which will be more effective. Sony seems to be marketing the Move to the exact same demographics they market the PS3 to now. There doesn't seem to be a large branching out of family oriented, multiplayer gaming, and that is evident when their big Move showing at E3 is a single player adventure game suited for the same crowd that purchases LBP, Uncharted, Infamous, etc.

Microsoft on the other hand has Nintendo 101 in place with the way they're marketing this. It is gung ho going for the expanded market, to the point that they're ignoring their current userbase to attract this brand new one. The games all have Kinect branding, all are simple to execute, all have a pleasing art direction for families. I just recently saw a large scale special on Nickelodeon about Kinect. It was a massive presentation. So while I think single player gaming will be practically non-existent on this, they will have secured more success in the multiplayer aspect than Move will.

Wow thats pretty spendy...

$40 for the camera, $50 for the controller and $30 for the subcontroller totals $120.

I find funny to see these Microsoft supporters to start arguing about two player controllers and such as more costs that Kinect does not have while they completely dispised comparisons about PS3 and X360 aggregated values that were rampant in the past. Hypocrisy for the win.

On the flipside, all of a sudden price based value is not important to Sony fans when it's Microsoft with the upper hand. Now Sony fans are fine with talking discounts as opposed to MSRP, and are ok with cutting corners by using Dualshocks instead of buying Navi Controllers. Hypocricy for the win indeed.

Those X and O buttons on the Navi Controller are also on the Wand. They're not two separate sets of X and O buttons. If on the Wand, the X button is the Jump button, it's going to be the Jump button on the Navi Controller's X button also. They won't perform separate actions, so it's really a matter of convenience. Personally I find using a Dualshock in this manner to be horrendous, as the weight distribution is poor, causing your hand to either tire or have to rest on a surface, and without a full grip on it, you can easily lose your placing on buttons and your ability to work the analog well. However, it will work as far as buttons are concerned.

Lets face it... fanboy bias aside... getting into motion gaming for MS and Sony fans is expensive for both sides.

There is no point in either set of fans trying to deny it.  The Kinect wont be cheap and MOVE will be expensive too where you want more than one full set of controllers, as most will.

This is why they have to have killer apps and not just be an optional control systems... if something is an option and it costs extra it will fail.

This... pretty much sums it up.  Wii was also expensive when it first came out.  Motion Control overall, gotta pay for it.

Seece also added to this thread, great comparison with numbers.

BTW... why are we talking discounts and stuff?... Stick to MSRP as thats what really counts.  It's almost the same as saying the PS3/X360/Wii will be discounted via the retailer... how is that relevant to the consumer cost? unless its permanent which is why you gotta stick with MSRP.

so to fully play some move games (games either needing 1 wand, 2 wands or a wand and a nunchuk) it will cost...

$100  bundle - eye, wand, sports

$30 nunchuk

$50 additional wand

thats a lot of money.

The wiimote bundled with the motion plus is about $50 aswell... When someone usually says the price of the wii, they don't add the price of the additional wiimote and nunchuk to inflate the price...

I am a Gamer... I play games and not consoles. I have a PC and Console on which I game... I like games. End of Story!
