Have no clue how this can't work on Wii.  Looked cool and good, but just as any other motion system, including wii, you can see this guy swinging his arm around and still see a lag in the gameplay.  I see it as no better or no worse than wii motion plus.  But the graphics being HD don't appear to be better than a Wii is capable.  It looked really cool.  I wish more studios would publish for all 3 systems though instead of being bought out by indiivdual console makers.  The game that got me totally excited for Sony conference was the finale……Twisted Metal.  That just looked terrific.

As for the OP question…Zelda killer NOT AT ALL. Harry Potter killer……maybe.

Oddly, you couldn't make the game shown at the conference with either of the other motion control schemes.

- the Kinect (unfortunately) seems to be what we all expected it to be, and the accuracy makes it practically worthless for 'traditional console games'. (it may be good for RTS games, but haven't seen any evidence either way).
- the WM has the accuracy, but doesn't have position data, so whilst it would track the 'swing' it wouldn't know the start/end position.. it would not know how to project a particle from the wand in the manner shown in the demo. (you could make a 'similar' game along these lines with the WM , just not with the control method that was demoed).

In terms of Zelda-killer, nope. But it is one of the more interesting uses of motion control to date.

It's important to remember here that all we've seen of Zelda is a ten minute demo designed to show off the controls. We've seen nothing of how those controls will be used in the context of plot or game mechanics. We don't even know a basic premise of the story. Hell, the segment demoed might not even be in the final game for all we know. So to say 'it's just the same thing we've seen time and time again' is a little disingenuous.

Sure, it's Link with a sword, shield, bow and arrow, etc, but that doesn't mean it's going to end up being the same. I'm not really sure what could be done differently there unless Link is suddenly going to go Guybrush Threepwood style and use a rubber chicken as his main weapon...

Sorcery looked ok, but like Zelda, we still only have a basic idea of what it is, and has as been mentioned, it seems a lot like Harry Potter, even that big thing at the end of the demo looked a bit like the troll in the first book/film.

what do you mean we dont?! its zelda.  the entire world is imperiled and link must travel across the world to different environments that each contain dungeons reflecting the area and collect some item from a boss eventually leading to him saving the world from a great evil and probably rescue a princess along the way

new day hopefulyl less crappy computer results...

just a thought for people comparing visuals again = SD=! HD, of course visually Sorcery SHOULD look WAAAY better than Zelda, the fact that it only looked on par with Wii graphics makes it seem a bit lazily done. I'm not saying its bad, I'm just saying that Resistance blows it out of the water so badly that it caused more oceanic damage than BP. :D

Also consider that Sorcery is a nearly complete package, due out this fall, where Zelda was said to still be heavily in production and not due out till 2011. Think about it, last E3, they didnt have anything but artwork to show us, and it was one piece of generic artwork. Ina year they showed us a working product. By next year it'll have all its polish.

You just gave me the most awesome idea ever - they should make an adventure of Shadow/Dark Link, and you play as the antagonist. Would be a nice twist on the series.

i wasn't impressed with Zelda's demo, it didn't look great and it didn't feel like it was better than Twilight Princess, infact Twilight Princess looks like a better game =s

as for Sorcery i don't know yet ,if this was a Metroid like exploration game then it will be great, but if its linear than no thanks!.

There's a difference between knowing the intricacies of a story and knowing a basic outline of what happens within that story. It's like saying that all FPS games out there share the same basic story because they're all about shooting soldiers/aliens/zombies/mutants to try and defeat the bad guy/save the world/win the war.... It does have a basis in fact but it does all of those games a deliberate disservice to suggest such a thing.

Anyway, as of right now we know precisely nothing either way, whether it will be the same or not. So as I've already said, it's disingenuous to assume...

you said we dont know the basic premise.  not we dont know the exact details and every line that happens in the game.  thats pretty much how every single zelda goes so just piss off.

Everything at the conference lagged.  ALL OF THEM.

Did no one notice that EVERYTHING lagged?  This was not just a kinect lags, or move lags, or the wii mote was lagging, it all did.  It is as simple as the projectors response times (I read these were the same culprits in the 3D demo by Sony, ie they just arent as bright due to their nature).  They were the real culprits here.  All the products in the end will all run almost identically.  It is all up to the library of games that comes out for each different product.

Most of those games that "seemed" to lag were magically "fixed" when people played them at their corresponding booths. (one unit hooked directly to the TV)
