where exactly does it fall in the ratchet and jak universe. I mean in terms of gameplay. Similarities? differences?...

Eh, not all that similar. Sly is a hell of a lot more focused on actual platforming than either Jak or Ratchet. Actually has quite strong AI, too (compared to other platformers) thanks to the pseudo-stealth nature of the games. Boss fights are very much more similar to Crash Bandicoot, and the portal nature of the level system quite similar to the 3D Mario games.

These things, along with the brilliant comic-book style artwork, and above average voice acting makes it a superior series to Ratchet; it doesn't quite have the same explosive high-action gameplay, though, of the later Jak games.

Certainly underrated.

Nice, I always wanted to try the Sly Cooper series, especially after playing inFamous.
