edit: Also, why don't people give credit to sony for the disc format for consoles? I mean NINTENDO started using a disc format with Gamecube, after sony's PS1 sucess.. yet nobody mentions that. BUT OFCOURSE WHEN SONY IS DOING SOMETHING SIMILAR TO NINTENDO it is mentioned and painted on to these forums as if it is blasphemy. Ive been on this site since it started, and I know people too well. |
probably bcuz nintendo worked with sony to do the snes playstation
it was never sony idea to do disc format on their own. saturn did it b4 them
and nintendo didnt do it on the n64 bcuz of piracy and now look how that turned out
even Nintendo console are gettin crazy piracy
Nintendo made me a gamer so I'd be stupid to ever try to forget that like so many people nowadays

Well.... I haven't seen it yet, so maybe that's why. If I don't see it, I just don't believe it.

- Correct me if wrong, but I think there was a console before the ps that used CDs.
And nintendo used mini disc with the GC, not b/c ps' success, but b/c it was the way to advance. When the new format comes out, im sure every console will go that way.
03/10/09 HUGE day in my life:
this leo -j is so exited about motion controls but he dont even have a wii, sony fan are so funny.

NO BIAS

What's funny about those "complete Wiimote rip-off" statements is that they usually come from people who would never accept an EyeToy-Kinect comparison.
Yet when looking at the Hardware side, Kinect is actually a lot closer to the EyeToy/Playstation Eye than Move is to the Wiimote:
EyeToy/Playstation Eye = RGB camera 2 microphones
Kinect = RGBZ camera 2 microphones
PS Move = RGB camera 2 microphones buttons 6 axis acceleration sensor light emitting bulb for position tracking
Wiimote = 3 axis acceleration sensor Speaker Infrared light emitting sensor bar infrared tracking sensor buttons
I think it's a safe bet to assume that Move was inspired by the success of the Wiimote, but buttons and an acceleration sensor are actually the only parts both systems have in common - and you can hardly accuse Sony for stealing the concept of buttons. Acceleration sensors on the other hand aren't anything special today either - pretty much every mobile phone has them builtin these days, and they were also built into the standard PS3 controller right from the start.
And these people seem to forget that the Move controller is just one half of the Move hardware. I still think the Wiimote-Move-comparison is understandable because both are one-handed controllers which leads to a similar look But if one sees the similarities between Move and Wiimote, how can he deny the similarities between Kinect and EyeToy?

Suuure.
Any way, I love how the gaming media is now just getting on to Motion after 4 years. I really feel its basically the dog herding the sheep. Because they spent so much time bashing the Wii and motion, they now have to do an immediate about face in order to salvage millions of $'s. The funny thing is to see the actual sheep go along with it.
I've no respect for those that bashed the Wii and motion until Move/Natal was announced. but I've great respect for those that hated Motion on Wii and hate it for their consoles of choice. That's how you can distinguish the fan from the..fanatic I guess.
Apparently Move will be displayed this week accross retailers, I'm not interested in it in the least, but I'll look for myself instead of listening to the hype machine at work.
Still feel both This and Kinect are going to be massive flops.
Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:
If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.
If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.
leo-j you are waisting your time trying to explain why ps move is different, i have been there and trust me it's a waste of time.
anyway for us professionals we know it has upper body and head tracking as well as motion control, augmented reality, it is the future, people hate it because of similarities.
To those willing to learn the technical explanation in my official thread http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=104053&page=1#
it's the future of handheld

I agree, but only where the criticism was of the control scheme. There are certainly valid complaints to be made regarding the Wii (as there are for all consoles). If the basis of the complaint was that "motion control is a fad/gimmick that is shit", then people who act like Move/Kinect are the holy grail of gaming just look like idiots. If, however, you're excited for Move because you like Sony first party and don't like Nintendo's, that's understandable, so long as it's accepted that it was the games, not the control schemes, that were the reason for the original criticism.

Maybe they feel Sony will actually improve on the tech and produce high quality motion control games that run 1:1 with superb visuals to boot? I mean let's be honest, Nintendo has had some epicly awesome uses for motion controls (Like Wii Sports / Sports Resort) but it's had quite a few duds as well. Basically resorting it to a 'waggle' system.
The Wii is fun for me but the whole 'Mii' Character vibe among other things gets very old. For example, I loved the Basketball game on Wii Sports Resort. It's a lot of fun, adds a good amount of strategy but you can't walk away feeling like something 'more' could have been done with the technology. Something better.
Sony may have copied Nintendo numerous times across history, but there is little doubt that they perfected things Nintendo came up with and made them better.
People are excited about Move because of the different game types, the different applications (That you know will be unveiled), the speed at which it is registered on the system, and the precision that Wii Motion Plus can't even provide.
Personally, I never hated motion controls but I never fell in love with them for my exclusive gaming usage (And I don't feel like I will fully embrace them on the Move either.) But I bet I use the Move and my PS3 more than I felt the desire to use my Wii because the software will be improved.
