So the US goes to war with an oil rich Iraq and now they find a $trillion worth of minerals in Afghanistan.
I can't put 2 and 2 together...

This could play a major part in reducing the number of Afgahnistani's devoting their labour to the production of opium for Heroin in coming decades.

Im concerned for them. I hope they don't get screwed out of their wealth like practically every other third world country with valuable minerals/resources.
Tease.

The US government will probably make some claim like
'Well, if WE don't mine it, the taliban will, so we're actually doing them, and the world, a favor by stealing their riches!'

ok people lets be realistic.
This was found after the war started.
This is probably a precursor to why Obama wanted to switch forces from Iraq to Afghanistan.
Afghanistan has not capability to mine the resources and won't for many years.
US firms can and will jump start the operations of mining these resource that will most probably have the following results:
1. Massive reduction in illegal drug activity from opium.
2. Massive increase in GDP
3. Increase in infrastructure
4. Increase of government pocket lining as US firms grease the wheel.
