WOW congrats, my Son and I still play that game, it's freakin GREAT!
Please feel free to share some tips on making it easy on the harder settings

weapon choice really seemed to make the biggest effect more than anything. most of the weapon types suck.
Assault rifles, rocket launchers, turrets, sniper rifles. (there are a couple levels you may want to choose other things... [for example, one of the later underground levels starts you near the top of the large room. you can run right to the top and shoot the Prominance missile launcher off, or drop c70 bombs off] but generally you will want the best of those classes)
If you can manage to beat level 40 on inferno you can get most of the best guns(it has nice amount of weapon drops and can be completed relatively quickly once you got the hang of it). i would run up a bit, drop some turrets near my friendlies and then start shooting with an assault rifle. you will want to stay within your group of friendlies. running away from the group generally leads to a very quick death. there are two sets of enemies that come, so once you are near the end of the first you can reload your turrets.
if you feel that you are a bit low on total health...i liked to play level 52(on easy) to gather some armor drops. play through the level until the drop ships come then split up and each take a drop ship. i used an assualt rifle to shoot the ants while they were in the air dropping down. the ants come fast and fall in the same spot so its a nice level for this sort of thing, imo
nothing can make it easy on inferno though. especially when fighting spiders which have webs that can shoot through solid rock. a little luck, a bit of patience, and a lot of rolling.
