Forums - Gaming - I hate DLC strategies

Don't you just hate the DLC trend? New games are still hot (just out of the oven) and DLC are already scheduled and sometimes even out within one or two months between each other.

I respect and celebrate dlc which adds value to an experience that was cherished and as you wait for a sequel is presented to you. But I don't respect neither celebrate games which are sold to me in pieces, the first of those full priced, the laters a bit cheaper, when they should have been included in the price I paid.

Can't we do something about this?

The concept of DLC is a good thing, but your'e right it does tend to get abused.

The ironic thing for me is that the better the game, the DLC either tends to be free or very cheap.

And yes we can do something about it, don't buy it. Until then developers will keep churning them out, and it will increasingly figure in the design of a game.

I am just concerned that games as Heavy Rain or Allan Wake got their DLC announced just as soon as they had been released.

I am afraid that as those games are emblematic for fanboys and as they come with trophies or achievements they still sell pretty good, when they should have been included in the game or at least offer much more with some prudential period of time from its release date.

Depends, really. I'm sure a lot of day one DLC is stuff that was held back just so they could sell it separately. But in some instances it's something that didn't fit in with the original game or couldn't be completed in time, so I suppose it's better to give people the opportunity to buy more content for a game they love rather than for the content to never see the light of day.

What really pisses me off is how mindless some publishers or developers are in their attempts to squeeze more money out of a game. From what I understand, the BioShock 2 map pack was a huge clusterfuck because 2K didn't want to create a separate playlist and split the community. So unless you happen to end up in a lobby in which every single person has splashed out for the DLC, you'll never actually get to play on the maps (outside of private matches, I assume). It just seems hugely inconsiderate of the most devoted BioShock 2 multiplayer fans... and let's face it, there can't be that many of them.

If its like Battlefield DLC then no, as its not DLC.

If its like L4D2 dlc then yeah!
