Forums - Sales - GTA4 has Shipped over 17 MILLION Worldwide (Slightly undertracked)?!

Probably about 1 million PC sales included.

16 million is probably split 50/50 across PS3 and 360. It was when it was 13 million sold, so I have no reason to think otherwise now:

I mentioned it here: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=109204

Your next question comes from Edward Williams - BMO Capital Markets.

First of all, going back to JT's line of questioning, can you give us an idea as to this 13 million GTA 4 units, how many of those are Xbox 360 platform? So what's the addressable market for the downloadable The Lost and Damned.

Lainie Goldstein

It's approximately 50/50, Ed.

And what about a geographic breakdown, U.S. versus international?

Lainie Goldstein

It's about 50/50 there as well.

Benjamin Feder

50/50 generally.

Lainie Goldstein

50/50 over both, right.

So if I had to guess, shipment sales are 8 million 360, 8 million PS3, 1 million PC.

explained well

I really wish this site gave retail pc numbers each week. It'd really give us firstly a far better view on how strong the overall brick and mortal market is, but more importanly make it easier to guage how strong digital sales are and thus make pc market "analysis" far less speculative.

Plus I'd love to be able to see starcraft 2 pre-order numbers in america.

I just saw that ioi posted on this thread. I'm sure that he'll contact Take2/Rockstar and try to get the breakdown for platform from the 17 million figures, if it's what I expected to be above, I'm sure he'll make adjustments, if he gets something else, then he'll proceed accordingly. The winners is us.

That's a lot of additional GTA IV sales for Rockstar since their last report.

According to Nintendo the PS3 version of GTA IV still managed to sell well within the top 20 for last quarter in Europe. (However according to VGChartz the GTA IV for the PS3 did not enter the top 20 for others, not even for 1 of those weeks).

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

Well PC seems the obvious explanation, but 17m is a pretty good number, just hurry up making the next one!

{and even though it doesn't display the thread creator on the hub page, the capitals told me immediately it was darth's thread}

Absolutely. VGC has good relationship with publishers and SE has used VGC sales numbers in their fiscal report. That's one example, and while he has never confirmed or denied it, I'm pretty sure he got in contact with SCEA before adjusting the sales data for GOW1 and 2 and with Atlus before adjusting the sales data for Demon's Souls.

Maybe they included 1 million or so PC version sales.

Wrong, the sales of the PC version should be over 2 millions now. There's no way that there's over 1.6 millions copies collecting dust in retail stores.

I'm not surprised though, GTA games have always sold millions on PC, even though they always come out late and with many problems.

I've never understood why Rockstar would released different ports (such as the pc version) later. It would make more sense from a marketing standpoint to release the pc version at the same time so it can benefit for the collective hype and multi-million dollar marketing campaign.

But then again they release it late, make it buggy as hell and it still sell a million or two copies, so who am I to blaim them?
