Forums - Gaming - Capcom May Have "Special Plans" For Resident Evil This Year

You missed DMC4, BlazBlue and Monster Hunter 3 in the 'AAA' games list.  Games take longer to develop now so not going to see the same release schedule as past gens.  The cost for failed games is also a lot more harsh so like everyone they are sticking to the tried and true.

Blazblue has nothing to do with Capcom.

Monster hunter 3...my bad there. I am just not on top of Wii stuff these days.

And DMC4...I don't know about that one. I mean it did have decent reviews but there really was no competition for that kind of gameplay this gen when it came out. Bayonetta, God of War 3, Sigma 2 make short work of DMC4's offering...so is it really stand out title? I personally thought it was bland and generic beyond belief with cookie cutter gameplay from DMC3 but since we're not talking personal preferences...I really cant argue against it.

Also, if the cost of failed games is high, why are we getting things like Bionic commando, Dark Void...hell even Lost planet 2. I mean that game is flopping hard right now..Its supposed to sell 2 million no? These games are flopping cause they are not very good, and not because they have little commercial appeal like before...

I am slightly concerned with the attitude capcom has to be honest. I mean, Namco already has one foot in the grave by milking sequels too much. Premiere franchises like Ridge Racer, Tekken and Soul Calibur have become run of the mill sequels, selling less and less. Nothing has really taken their place in Namcos catalogue. The mentality capcom has may lead them down the same path...

Around the Network

hopefully its a brand new game in the series,

if not remake resident Evil 2 for the DS like they did with 1

After RE4 I personally hope Mikami never touches another Capcom franchise.  As to new games for older series...

Lets look at things realisticly here and put personal prefferences aside...

How many AAA new IPs has capcom done since they booted Clover/Mikami? I can think of 2...Dead Rising, Zak and Wiki. I define AAA games as stand out games with great critical reception.

Better yet, how many good games have they done this gen? SF4, Dead Rising, RE5, Zak...anything else?

In addition to the already mentioned MH3, I'd also add Apollo Justice, Ultimate Ghouls N' Ghosts, Tatsunoko Vs Capcom and maybe the PSP MegaMan 1/X1 remakes (if those count).  Ghost Trick, Okamiden, MHP3, Last Ranker and Basara 3 look promising too.

Yeah I forgot about MH3...and TvsC as well, good call. Rest of those are...yeah. Upgraded ports of old games, simple portable games...etc.

Not saying they are not good...just that its not a good yardstick for company achievements.

Its like..."Sure we butchered a 20 million dollar production of a new Bionic Commando...but we sure kicked ass on those 8bit Megaman games".
