Anybody else itching to hear the first week's sales? I'm not sure why but I feel it'll be around 300~400 thousand.

Yes, I'm very interested in the sales.  But I'm not actually expecting sales that high.  Just because it seems like most places didn't order many copies of the game.  Most GameStop locations seemed to only have 10-12 copies of the game and most Wal-Mart/Costco/Best Buys near the same.  So I think a more honest estimate might be anywhere from 20,000-50,000 on the high end.

However, they probably will be making a much higher second shipment for the game, because it sounds like its selling out everywhere.  And this could be a game with good legs.

I am confused about the choices in this game. Like you can have a warrior or what not. My question is, is that just a job system that I apply to four predetermined characters (like I hope) or do I create all the characters myself in an editor (meaning they are soulless puppets for the storyline)?

Yes, all PCs in this game are made by you and to your specifications, because that is how Dragon quest IX works. It frees up the player's imagineation while simulatiniously avoiding the personality traps that Final fantasy and the like have fallen into as of late.

Sure this may blow if someone isn't a virtual Dean Koontz or Echrio Oda when it comes to creating interesting back stories and personalities, but Soulless puppets? I think not.

You have one main character which the story focuses on (yourself) and you create up to three other characters to form a party.  The jobs you give them just determine how your characters gain skills/stats, much like in WRPGs.

As for characters being 'souless', I wouldn't go that far.  They infuse a lot of personality and visual quirks to make them seem lifelike.  But if you think you need more options like party chat, story based dialogue and cutscenes that focus on all your characters to make it seem like the characters have a 'soul', you can try Dragon Quest IV-VIII.

Ah, that does seem a bit more logical, but where did you hear that it's selling out so much?

I am 15 hours in, bit disappointd so far. jst going to find th person who left th place wher u can change your "class". He ate th peach (or whtever they call it yggy I thnk)

nw will carry on.

my problems are its too easy, th battle system cn be won by jst pressing A if u set tactics for othr chrcters which i do. Th chrcters are gud but i cant have intrestng ones in my party. In DQ5 i cud hve friends i met in my party in DQ9 th girl who runs the inn cant join, th right knight cudnt join.

It hs gud chrcters in story but I cnt have them in my team. my own chrcter is boring.

music is surrisngly forgettable

Positives -

story is a bit diffrent frm othr dragon quests, is fresh

towns are made well, NPC's are dun well, they say useful thngs unlike FF (luking at u FF10) or Tales NPC's in towns tht were useless

I like it bt its not the best dragon quest

I just beat the game last night. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but it wasn't nearly as memorable as V or VII to me. I liked that the development team added so many things to spend time on such as treasure grottos and quests, but I also felt that the main quest was a little bit shorter and less grandose than we're used to. The music was solid as usual, and I especially liked the dungeon theme this time around. Overall I'm happy with the game, but I kind of hope that they go back to preset characters for X.

I don't see what is so interesting about this title.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

You  do realize how early in the game you still are. I agree with you that it isn't my favorite dragon quest, but not for the same reasons you have. My opinion is more in line with Cactus'. The main quest seems to have been trimmed down, but the extras are fantastic.

More along the lines of this.  Which btw, right after you save the Abbott is where the difficulty jumps.

But as an aside, this game is a very different title, even for a Dragon Quest title.  The main story is short, but it is full of hundreds of hours of extra content.  Why, adfter you save the Abbott, you literally can spend dozens of hours just doing side quests and alchemy without continuing the story.  Much like in...oh....a WRPG.

Long story short, the 'meat' of the game is in the quests and exploration, just like with any Dragon Quest.  Not in the story and just trying to 'beat the game'.  Think of the 'story' in a Dragon Quest game as just opening new areas for you to explore.  Not as the part of the game that should drive you.

will play on, mayb sum of my current criticisms will go away and new ones will come up.

Like I sed, I like it so far, bt its not the best dragon quest (nt that every new game in a frnchise needs to be th best) and I fear it mite me one ov the weaker ones for me, lets see.

Its jst nothing is as memeorable as DQIV, V, VI, VII yet. I like it more thn DQ8 tho
