Forums - Gaming - What ever happened to racing games?

What I mean by this is just simple pick a car and race. It seems every game has something added anymore. Examples: Weapons from MK, Bulding up your cars in GT and well a crap load of games.   While I love me some Mario Kart I would like a simple racing game. No building your car no making it shiny with Rims and decor no building up the engine exhaust etc.

I don't see how Mario Kart is a good example of how racing games are shifting away from pure racing elements

All MK games except for the most recent one have items turned on all the time, MK:Wii gives you the option of turning them off. Fact is no-one does this because they improve the game

Sure it does to a point. I have always loved Mario Kart I enjoyed older GT titles and other games that deal with buidling up your car using a weapon etc etc. But it would be nice to have at least one game that is just choose a car and race.

We have f1 2010 coming in september thats just pure racing and no shooting and stuff. Although i do hear you have to answer questions from the press and interviewers durinf your career mode and thats your answers effect your relationship with your team and how other teams think of you. i dont know about you but im really looking forward to it im a massive F1 fan.

Whoa, I typed an empty post?

What I tried to say was "Track Mania.  You just turn it on and race immediately.  If you want, you can make tracks too."

What I find really amazing is a game containing 1000 cars...and  that only 0.0001% of people who buys it will see all of them, let alone play a single race with them.

How about Sega Rally? I thought it was pretty decent...
