Iwata stated somewhere that the 3DS will be quite pricey. Which means that they will not abandon the DS line. They will cut the prices of the DSi/DSiXL and sell the 3DS at a much higher price than the DSiXL's original price.

In order for Nintendo to win back the "graphic whores", they will need to really push the 3DS graphics to the MAX following the fad and craze that they will produce in having a 3D capable handheld that doesn't need graphics. That is going to be their startegy for the 8th generation of gaming. If i come correct, the PSP will die soon enough.

I imagine the 3DS having the power of somewhere inbetween the GC and the Wii.  However 3D and multiple screen might use up processing power, therefore limiting the platform to PS2/GC/XBOX level graphics.

Would be strange if nintendo has a handheld more powerful then it's current console, but we'll see

It would be awesome for the 3DS to have those kind of graphics!

But maybe it'll be as powerful as the Gamecube.

Considering the system will likely have a smaller screen, it is entirely possible to get near the ballpark of the 360 and PS3, and not require that much power.  My prediction was based on the belief that the 3DS could get games near the level of the PS3 and 360, in the development mix.  This means that it gets whatever 3rd party stuff is for the PS3 and 360, and comparable.  The 3DS is meant to go after the PS3 and 360 crowd and not just be an upgrade of the DS system.  It is Nintendo on the offensive.  Then, I was taking it to be the software for the 3DS would then also end up working on the next Nintendo home console.


Thats some intresting thoughts. Makes sense too .

I think you mean N64, as the DS is no where near as powerfull as the GC.

Maybe the DSI is  bit more or just as powerfull as the N64, but i really dont think the DS is, but then im not too sure, but i really do know its no where near the power of GC, its no where near the power of Dreamcast never mind the GC.


The DS is more powerful than the N64. The raw specs seem less, but the overall efficiency of the system is far greater. The texture buffer is several times bigger, for one thing. I mean 512KB (per screen), vs 4KB.



A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
