Gears 2 campaign is better than the first one. I thought that would be a fact by now.

multiplayer was better in the first one of course.

How is it better? Visaully? Story wise?

Gameplay is exactly the same, there is just less of it and the set pieces are not as good...

the only part in Gears 2 which is as good is Gears 1 is the very last level when you are fighing in that city. thats when the game kicks it in to 5th gear and actually has some meaty gameplay.

Everything else is just glossy presentation with some mixed shooting. Like the part where Cole Train comes in and saves your ass from that ambush... You just have to hide behind cover and wait for 1-2 minutes. Its time based... Thats what I call challenging gameplay!

Fair enough... I found both games had terrible story and worse dialoge than most Porn movies. But Gears 1 had funner more challenging gamplay. Everything in Gears 2 was for presentation sake. Like riding that flying creature in Gears 2...dude, not fun!

I see where your coming from. However, remember each to their own. ;)

I found the flying part a welcome break in Gears 2 for example. And enjoyed being able to take in the visuals more in that part.

Also loved the part in the underground river. Also the defense of the landing platforms just after the flying bit.

But also I loved the first time you fought the big guy in Gears 1 ( forgotten what they are called ) where he takes out the pillars. That was great design. Little room, yet you have to run. ArGGGGHHHH.

The story is of course generic. But Gears was always about the set pieces. Of which it does a great job. Gears doesnt really do boss fights. What it has is pretty easy. But it does battles exceedingly well. #

I'm less picky with games than most here. If I'm really enjoying it I couldnt care for any issues. As long as they dont hinder my enjoyment. Glitches smitches for example. I enjoyed ME1 to much to notice any faults.

Looks great, but then I expected it too :P. Some of that concept art looks more intriguing to me. It seems to mix some of the landscape from Killzone 2 with a more gothic architecture from Gears whilst showing hints of Stalker, and oddly, some bits made me think of Shadow of the Colossus.

I am honestly at a point where I am kinda bitter towards the franchise cause of Gears 2. When Gears 1 came out, I thought it was a pretty fun cover shooter with really generic story and characters from WWE.

I figured the sequel will take the strengths of the first(shooting/cover gameplay) game and add better boss battles and more clever set pieces.

Instead they made all that stuff worse and boosted the presentation, story and characters. Like the parts on the tank on the beginning...I have no clue wtf is going on half the time. Its just on rails and I have control 20% of the time...

In any case, I understand that a lot of people enjoyed that whole cinematic aspect of the game so epic did something right.Im finc if CliffyB wan'ts to make it all cinematic... however with Gears 3 I really hope they bring the shooting set pieces up to par with games like Halo ODSt and Half Life 2. Like the very last part of HL2 Episode 2, where you are defending the base from those Tripods...that alone is better and more gameplay engaging than anything Gears 1 or 2 have attempted.

Agree. Epic need to combine Gears 1 and 2  for 3. Do that and it will be the best Gears yet.

I liked HL2, but enjoyed the extra episodes much much more. But yes, there is no dev out there that does set pieces like Valve and Bungie. Agree totally.

Cant wait to see Reach set pieces with 40 individual AI. That will be something epicly new. See what I did there. ;)

@selnor

hah, yeah. 40 AI will be nuts. I mean, all the flack Halo 3 gets for the campaign lacking presentation and visuals... The set pieces in that campaign spank anything found in Gears. You actually have to use terain to your advantage (get higher ground) and save weapons/power ups for certain situations...etc

In any case, Gears 3 is adding 4 player coop, so that can be a good thing. Hopefully they are doing this so they can have more interesting battles, rather than have more characters talking at the same time. lol

Funny how you picked the dullest part of the whole game.

Just staying behind and fire with rocket launchers. How challenging *Rolleyes*

as a one time 16 year-old I'll have to call bullshit on that... nothing is worse than story in a porn movie...
