Forums - General - IGN and numbers... they mess up yet again.

I just encountered an article on IGN about the recent Prince of Persia movie being in flop. In the article they mention the movie grossing just $37 million thus far at a $200 million budget, with their source being Box Office Mojo....

Now as some of you may know Box Office Mojo for some reason choose to mention the Domestic(U.S.A) numbers at the top of their Movie articles..... with the total worldwide number just a bit lower on the page. You see the Worldwide gross for the PoP  movie is already over $135 million in just 4 days! Even worse, they mention budgets and grosses of about every game movie ever made.... again with U.S.A only numbers.

I've sent an e-mail to them asking kindly to read more than just the first sentence on their sources.

Wow, it did quite well overseas for its first weekend :D.

Lol, IGN can be rather pessimistic at times.

yep, that's American centrism as usual, there's America and "rest of the world", which is very dificul to understand for French people, we're very open to the world and we would never display data the way BOM displays it.

Note to VGC : Time display would be great to be modifiable, for game release dates for exemples, I hate this MM/DD/YYYY display, a user setting for the entire site would be great.

Yeah it is kind of stupid, a lot of their other charts are solely based on Domestic numbers aswell while usely close to 70% of the gross comes from overseas.

America think they are the best at everything. and always compare them selves to the world. in the paper in Melbourne it said Australia is versing the might of America in a soccer friendly but they said that we are just used to saying that as we are used to America saying they are the best and are supposed to be good at everything

Wow, 2 posts in here bashing the USA about being elitist, because of what an website did, and that website being IGN no less?  Why the hate?

lol, it's pretty stupid, now I was shocked that it did so poorly, but now I see it did well

The USA itself isn't biased, just its media. Take for instance, this console generation. The PS3 is only down 5M against the 360, but how many times have we seen "360 dominates the PS3" just based on American numbers? Especially when (and still) the PS3 is outselling the 360 everywhere else

Basically, to the US media: America = World.

" "360 dominates the PS3" just based on American numbers?"

link please ...

ROFL I hate it when they do that.

They do this on the bonus round too, they said MGS4 hasn't done that wel, its only sold 2 Million...they sid that on a bonus round once I was like

THATS JUST IN AMERICA YOU FOOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOOK AT WORLDWIDE SALE!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey
