You need to motivate yourself FF VIII does start off very slow, but it does turn out to get better as it goes along, and there are some mind blowing things that happen storywise later on(for it's time), the Junction system is not the best battle system SE ever created, but still it is better than some of the others, to be honest FF8 has the best story of them all, but you really have to commit alot of your time just to appreciate it.

I was just like you in the beginning, I just couldn't get into the game, however, once you become SeeD, everything gets much more interesting.

The Edea assassination is really fun and also cruising round in the ragnarok is fun :3

This game blows. It's mostly a press button to scroll [bad] dialogue game to me.

I finished it... but just because at that time I thought each Final Fantasy was a necessity for gamers... boy, was I wrong.

FF8 was my second favourite FF game 9 years ago after rebuying it on PSN i discovered its a very flawed game IMO every character except squall is next to useless drawing magic is stupid characters are really uninteresting plus squall is a total prick i could sum the story up in 7 words there FAR to much talking ect... these are just the bad points there some stuff i like about the game

When I played FF8 for the first time I didn't like it that much (still thought it was great), it was my worst FF till FF12 released.

but after I played it on PSN I enjoyed it much more than I enjoyed FF7 off PSN, so I think its aged better.

But I still dislike all the characters except for Zell, the gameplay is still annoying but I found it more fun than I did all those years ago, but the plot rules, so gripping, epic & interesting!

It is one of the more dull final fantasy game. It gets somewhat better later on, so maybe you should try to play it further.

Gotta be more patient with it, if you can make it pass Disc 1 I guarantee you'll be hooked.

You go through the amazing trying to assassinate Edea sequence? That was AWESOME especiall the music during the parade, her speech, the way you cen draw carbuncle from the two lizards when you go to save rinoa, and of course the annoying "oh I'm too nervous to shoot her" bit almost ruined it all but still!
