What's wrong with me? I think I have tried starting this game about five times. Every time I start playing, I play for about one hour, save, turn it off, and never continue. I REALLY want to like this game but I just can't get into the characters or the story or the battle system or ANYTHING. I mean, yeah, it's gorgeous for it's time but I have no idea why I don't like it.

I had no trouble with the other two PS1 Final Fantasy's. Does anyone else have any trouble liking this game?

All of my friends who are avid Final Fantasy fans say it's an amazing experience but to me it's just....boring. I'm not trying to troll this game or anything, but, it's the only Final Fantasy that I just can't get into.(Granted, I haven't played XI, X-2,XII, or XIII)

VIII does start kinda slow and uninteresting, and the story is a little wishy-washy (some things don't make sense) but the Junction system is the reason I like it so much, with Junctions you either love it or hate it, the reason junctioning and GF's are amazing IMO is that grinding is much much MUCH quicker than in the other titles, you draw magic for fifteen minutes and you're done, compared to level grinding for hours and hours.

I also like the abilities your GF's can learn, you can learn them in any order and you want and you feel like you have more customization than in the other titles

As a former Final Fantasy fan (started to dislike the series after FFX and I am not interested in any of the following games) I understand your feelings towards FFVIII. and In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with you. Not to troll or flame but I personally have mixed feelings towards the game: sometimes I like it a lot, sometime I think it's boring.

I agree it's hard to get into. I like the Junction system but I hate the magic system, I like the items you can get but I hate to search for magazines and then do item hunting to get the cool weapons. I like the story, but I can't stand any of the characters

Our experiences with Final Fantasy 8 are pretty much the same, it was just too boring at the beginning that I never got into it!

You guys that say the beginning is really boring... you really didn't like the landing on Dollet? Really? o_O

My main gripe with the game comes later, when you're using the Guardian Forces for the one millionth time and the later ones take forever to finish and you can't skip the animations.

My main gripe is the magic system:

You get magic by stealing some kind of "cards" from enemies or drawing them at some locations, that is fine; but if you use all of these cards you lost the magic spell and you don't recharge in an inn, no, you have to go to those locations or hunt those monsters to recharge your magic.

Them comes the issue to increase your attributes with magic "cards", the higher the number, the higher the attribute bonus. so you have to be really careful with the use of your magic or you will lose a precious attribute bonus you worked so hard for it. V_V

I loved FFVIII to death. I bought it for my PC, which couldn't run it properly at the time, so I bought it for the PSX as well!

Dollet is great, but events before Dollet are pretty boring a events after Dollet are boring even more.

OP: It´s nothing wrong with you, this happens with FFVIII.

If you junction properly you can kill monsters alot quicker by normal attacks than the guardian forces can. And by doing that your SeeD Rank wont do down either. Only GF sometimes worth summoning is EDEN.
