As a former Final Fantasy fan (started to dislike the series after FFX and I am not interested in any of the following games) I understand your feelings towards FFVIII. and In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with you. Not to troll or flame but I personally have mixed feelings towards the game: sometimes I like it a lot, sometime I think it's boring.
I agree it's hard to get into. I like the Junction system but I hate the magic system, I like the items you can get but I hate to search for magazines and then do item hunting to get the cool weapons. I like the story, but I can't stand any of the characters
