In Mafia 2 you play as someone in a mafia don't you?

In LA Noire you play as a detective solving crimes & so on.

Two completely different approaches & experiences & the LA Noire one sounds more unique.

Although I think the concept in LA Noire is much more intriguing. I want to be the investigator too. I hope the kids will realize that too and not just ignore the game for a Mafia-clone.
