Forums - Nintendo - Greenpeace Slams Nintendo Again

Nintendo has once again ranked bottom in Greenpeace’s Guide to Greener Electronics report.

In the 15th edition of the report the platform holder scored 1.8 on Greenpeace's 10-point scale for its policies on toxic chemicals, recycling and climate change, making it the least eco-friendly of the 18 electronics companies featured.

Greenpeace said that Nintendo’s score rose from 1.4 to 1.8 because of an improvement in its approach to managing chemical substances, but noted that the Wii and DS maker continued to score zero on all e-waste criteria.

Following a similarly poor assessment of its environmental practices in January, Nintendo told us that it considers the impact of its products “over their entire life cycle, from planning to disposal", and that the “Wii console is notably the most energy efficient of its generation”.

Elsewhere in Greenpeace's most recent report, Sony moved up from seventh place to joint sixth, despite its score declining from 5.1 to 4.9, while Microsoft’s score increased from 2.4 to 3.3, helping it rise one spot to 16th. Nokia was the highest ranked company with a score of 7.5, while Apple placed fifth with 4.9.

Greenpeace has really been harsh with all three console makers especially Nintendo what gives?

Greenpeace is just lazy to research themself... Nintendo doesn't automaticly give the information to greenpeace hench greenpeace gives them a low score..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Greenpeace are full of themselves really. Half of the criteria don't particularly apply to different companies.

For instance What would Microsoft take back from consumers aside from an RROD Xbox 360? Most of their goods are distributed on discs or with computers.

Also why would Nintendo need to have a stated position on climate change?! Furthermore why would they get a 'somewhat bad' rating for energy efficiency of their new models when they have class leading energy efficiency!

Its kinda full of itself in many ways.

Tease.

i wouldn't even bother listening to them at all anyway man lol

I don't care what those stupid hypocrites say.

tipically, as ever, who are these guys aniway, are they that important?

If Nintendo don't want to have a bas press they just need to work harder. Give them the god darn numbers and finish with that if you are so clean and pure Nintendo. Corporations won't move until there are a profit to be made. As simple as that. Companies will tend to takl shit and say how they are good intended and everything but for all we know it all PR. That why we need groups like Greenpeace that try to stay neutral and give information to citizens. Greenpeace are not perfect, but people here are just going the easy way and thrash people that at least are trying. What have you done recently that was not only for your own interests? I think you should ask this to yourself first before calling other idiots or whatever...

Don't these people got a cow to untip or a tree that hasn't be hugged yet i don't know why this is news it's a waste.

That's not the issue. The issue is, they are giving Nintendo terrible numbers BECAUSE they won't reveal their manufacturing techniques. Not because their products are actually environmentally harmful and not because their workforce negatively impacts the environment. If Greenpeace were to give articles pressing Nintendo to release their information without, I dunno...actually rating them, that would be totally different. Good on Nintendo for refusing to allow Greenpeace to bully them around.
