Well, even though it's 3D, it's still Nintendo and Mario... so...
True, and I do expect it to leg it out. I just figured retailers would have taken a closer look at the first Galaxy's opening performance, and cut back on initial orders so as to maximize shelf space and the like.
First day for SMG2 is a little lower than my expectation but pretty good nonetheless. I agree with jarrod that it would probably end around 800K unit. I would be really surprised if it gets anywhere close to 1 million. The sales for SMG2 comparing to SMG reminds me of the sales of Zelda ST comparing to Zelda PH.
As for Xenoblade, my expectation is 100K-200K now depending on how the hype picks up after the advertisement.
MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
I'm expecting Xenoblade to end below 250k for sure.
Basara 3 won't do any good on Wii, mainly because there's the PS3 version and it's the superior version as it contains online play and the obvious HD graphics. At most 100k.
DQM:BRV should do respectable numbers, 300k-450k.
SMG2 will end up below SMG, 100k to 300k below the million mark.

Bets with Conegamer:
Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.
I don't get why some people think that 143k in a single day is so bad, I think that's pretty damn good. Especially since Japan's population is like 1/4th the US.
We already know 3D Mario isn't nearly as popular as 2D Mario in Japan, so the relatively poor sales shouldn't come as a surprise.
However, Nintendo should really make another brand new 2D Mario game after this, now that I think it has been proven what Japan wants in terms of Mario games. They would be mad at this point to go against these trends and release yet another 3D Mario game there while holding back on a 2D one. If they don't, then the simply deserve to lose further ground to Sony there.
At least people know they can't say these sales are because Mario is beginning to have 'limited appeal' like they did when Galaxy 1 came out.
I'll give Super Mario Galaxy 2 four weeks before it falls BELOW New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

Yup, i agree with everything. I'm even expecting Xenoblade to barely do 100k at this rate. I would love it if i'm proven wrong though

Japan cares about online play and HD graphics now?

It seems to be that the country seems divided about that. While PS3 may have gotten some momentum recently, the fact is is that it's nowhere near close to dethroning Wii, and frankly, I really don't see it happening any time soon.
