Forums - Gaming - What if Xbox 360 was released a year later?

What if PS3 and Xbox 360 were released in the same year-2006. PS3 being $499/599 and xbox 360 being $300/400.  Would Xbox 360 still be in second place? Would PS3 still suffer for the 1st couple of years?

Answer away!!!!

This is not meant to be a flame thread but im expecting flamers anyway so flame away!! :)

PS3 would likely be in 1st place

What if the ps3 released a year later as well?

Id say PS3 would be 1st between them for different reasons.

alligned launches prove nothing, they're different points in time. Let me put it in a simple and over exaggerated form.

Imagine it's 2005 and the 360 has released, it' sells as well as it does.

Then 2006 hits, and the PS3 comes out, BUT, everyone WW gets $1000 given to them. The whole market gets a boost.

That's extreme and not the reason. But when the PS3 released, the 360 got that gen alive and kicking, more people aware of next gen consoles ect.

A year later and M$ may have figured out the RROD problem before release. So it would have lost the year head start, but it wouldn't have the reputation of being unreliable.

As a HUGE Xbox 360 fan, I must say the 360 would have failed and failed hard. The only advantage it may have had was that some of the 360's standard features may not have been on the PS3. Microsoft HAD to launch first. As a matter of fact, I've said it before: To succeed, a console doesn't have to be the most powerful. It just has to launch first with comparable hardware at a reasonable price. 360 did that. If they hadn't, Sony would've eaten Microsoft's lunch.

In my opinion.

probably no RROD, so I guess sales would have been pretty much the same as now.

same fate of xbox

Less RROD issues/fiasco imo which would have led to better sales...but I do believe the ps3 would have come on top...actually i think it will be even with the one year late start so yeah :P

but at the end of the day, as a gamer, I couldn't care less who wins or loses in this fan made up console war
