It is not THAT easy

- 360 is still selling quite well in Others
- Natal will push MANY system
- Slim / price cut will do the same

==> Imagine, half of the 360 base selling their 360 and buying a new 360 system for Natla/slim/price cut

that would be insane !

Where are the signs of a pricecut or slim for 360. Do you really think the main audience of 360 owners teenaged males is going to be interested in natal.

it might stay 3rd this generation cause i believe the 360 will drop the price soon. but... i believe the ps3 will sell more ltd cause it will still be around when the next generation arrives and the price will keep dropping. in fact the ps3 will probably hurt the next generation sales in the beginning.

They're targetting everyone with Natal.  I don't understand why some people seem to think its success is linked to its reception by hard core gamers since Microsoft goal with it is to expand their audience not just cater to the existing one with it.

japan - ps3
europe - ps3 with the help of GT5 
america - neck and neck between ps3 and 360. If natal turns out to be a huge success it may increase console sales but then sony also has move, and it has already won japan and will more than likely win europe too.

I think ps3 will end up in 2nd place when all is said and done but at the same time I don't mind accepting that I might be wrong.

Its simple

Xfans dont want to see or even hear a possiblitiy of PS3 price cut because they know what it will do specially with GT5.

PSfans dont like the idea of natal being HUGE because they also know what it will do.

PS3 has now a shot at getting 2nd place only the biggest microsoft fanboy will deny that, but that doesn't mean ps3 will indeed take it as MS has its own tricks to retain 2nd place and they will not give it up that easy.

In short you cant count out both consoles chances of keeping 2nd place this GEN, for me its interesting to see what happens this year as both company will try and win consumers with their motion controller,price,games etc.

The problem is how do you define end of gen of the 2 consoles?

Do you define it as the day one stops selling? (so you stop counting the others sales)

Do you define it as the year Xbox stops selling + 1 year of the PS3 selling (since Xbox came a year early) ?

Do you define it as the day they BOTH stop selling?

Ill go with the day one of them stops selling. At that exact moment, they will be equal (within the margin of error) so in the end, they are both in second place.

I think Xbox will leave the market first. When they do so, if you add the next year of sales for the PS3 (since it did come a year later) it will take over 2nd place. But as I stated above, at the time one leaves, they will be statistical tie.

why do people still assume that the ps3 will still be a contender when the next gen comes around? maybe the wii will, but i dont see the ps3 doing the same. Once the next gen comes then everything the PS3 offers will be a standard with vast improvements. Why would people still buy them? Not saying they wont, just dont see it happening.
