Forums - Sales - Does anyone think PS3 can realistically get to second place?

NO!

MS WILL NOT let it happen.

I want to know what the end of this gen will be considered as, with out a doubt the Next MS console will be released before the next Sony  PS

so when that releases does that mean the gen is offically over, i think it would be unfair then to label the PS3 as 3rd if it was in third place at that time considering the year later release, they should consider the gen over when the next PS comes out or at least give the two consoles the same amount of time to sell systems, if the 2 current gen systems had released the same year the PS3 would be in first.

I Hate the fact that all these pillows are contaminated by retard!!

Not to mention they have offered no exteneded warranty for YLOD repairs which seem to effect almost every launch unit within 3 years or so.

Extended warranty only exists on the 360 due to miserable built quality. It also does not cover all kinds of failures.

Actually this is exactly why Sony needs one for PS3's.  The launch machines must have horrible build quality with all of them getting YLOD.  They only need to cover YLOD with their warranty like MS only covers RROD/E74.

I mean they stripped us of our backwards compatibility that came in launch units

It was clear those chips had to go eventually, any tech enthusiast could tell you this.

They should have waited till they mastered the software emulation then, first.  Any tech enthusiast and intelligent consumer could tell you this.

took away our card readers

It was a nice extra, not key functionality. You can still buy an external solution (most however won't).

stripped away OtherOS

Sad, but understandable. Didn't know you were such a big fan of this feature?

I'm not, but quite a few people were.  I'm against a company removing features of a product for no reason.  It got Sony a whallop of trouble in lawsuits too.  Tsk. Tsk.

Not that many. Considering all the anticipated exclusives Microsoft bought for Japan, the 360 performed quite miserably in Japan. That´s my opinion, that´s not trolling. Many would consider this to be a fact.

It's more than doubled Xbox 1 sales.  Meanwhile PS3's sold about a third PS2 did over the same period....

What big Japanese XBox 1 exclusives did Microsoft buy compared to the 360?

What big 360 exclusives did MS buy?

Look here:

XBox 360:

Then switch to the XBox chart and compare exclusives.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

And you have proof MS bought all those?

And which of those did Microsoft "buy"?

@ nightsurge

Would it surprise you if Micosoft pays publishers for (timed) exclusivity?

You want to believe the XBox 360 is so immensely popular in Japan that Japanese companies would develop exclusives just like that for Japan? That's fine with me (but I don't agree), I am ending this off topic discussion now...

So you want to believe that all these games were "purchased" without proof simply because you want this idea of the Xbox 360 being unpopular in Japan?  I don't agree with that kind of flawed, baseless logic.

Microsoft rarely funds projects unless they publish them (ie: Blue Dragon).  They "buy" windows and exclusives the same way Sony and Nintendo do, through developer/publisher incentives like development support, co-promotion, reduced royalties, hardware bundles, etc.

The real reason 360 got a big upfront push from Japanese developers is that the platform came early, Microsoft pushed hard with incentives, and it was generally seen as good "warm up" for next gen before moving to PS3.  Which is more or less how it worked out, only PS3 didn't take over the world as expected so most Japanese devs have repositioned to multiplatform R&D for the HD twins (where as they were likely planning to just lessen or phase out 360 R&D originally).

The PS3 is currently on track to overtake the 360 before the end of 2011.

So one would have to believe that Natal will save the day for MS, or that a significant price drop is due in 2010 to think otherwise.

If MS announced their annual projections, it would be a pretty simple affair to see where they themselves predict the gap will be in the same time frame.

As for any claims that "the generation ends as soon as someone releases a new console": ridiculous. It ends when the last man standing ceases production and support.

You don't win a race by dropping out prematurely and then claim victory because you were ahead before you quit and your opponents passed you.

The PS2 is still selling.  Still has games... and it's the next generation.  There is nothing ridiculious about it.
