Not on consoles. Crysis is about the closest thing to it.

you people overrate crysis like its a generation ahead in graphics...

OT:

GOW III and U2 have the best character models in ANY VIDEO GAME imo, and surpass the CGI IN FF XIII in detail

Have you even played Crysis on high DX10?

OT: No, absolutley not.

It's getting close.

I think we've reached a point where there's little reason to spend extra money on making pre-rendered cutscenes.

That photo is obviously pre-rendered.

Nah, the engine has just been THAT optimized.

Please, the facial hair doesn't even have a consistent color.

Have video games reached Computer Generated Image quality? Absolutely. Anything you create in MS paint is, quite literally, CGI (Computer Generated Image) quality. The question as you posed it is absolutely meaningless. I have an idea on what you are trying to ask and I will address that as well.

I assume you mean have we gotten to the point where cut scenes look as good as real-time game play. The answer to that is absolutely not. It is functionally impossible. You can always put more shinies, polish, and over-all quality into images that are pre-rendered as opposed to real-time. There is absolutely no way to get around that unless the game itself creates images that mirror reality perfectly. Until then the machines can always run something that is closer and thus looks better.

Starcraft 2 ID: Gnizmo 229

that's an absurd question....

CGI from 1990? sure it already past them last gen even.

CGI from 2010... nope, that's where there are still there.

You didn't have to kill the thread completely

That's because it is.

Crysis models are better than any CGI I've ever seen. The textures on everything besides the human models are a tad disappointing, but it definitely look better than CGI. Although this isn't all that relevant, the animations in Crysis really bring the models to life.
