Forums - Sony - When People post on the" PS3 beating the Wii in Japan"...

DMeisterJ, I think you actually make a great point here. PS3 sales in Japan have absolutely bounced back and been much stronger than most of us anticipated. Sony fans have every reason to be happy with this achievement. It's unfortunate that a small but vocal minority of fans immediately take this good news and begin making ludicrous "PS3 DOMINATION!!!" predictions, which gives everyone else a bad name.

I will do my best not to lump intelligent posters like you in with the wackos... I think we all know which type of people I mean.

Excuse me bu wasn't the 40Gb LABELLED as the WORST DECISION in gaming

Price is more important than backwards compatibility it seems.  Some people doubted Sony's decision with the 40Gb model, but that has changed.  People still doubt Sony's plans for the PS3 overall, but that will change too eventually.

Im not sure what you are saying. If it's "Wii owners claim this(PS3 sales increasing) was going to happen" that's becuase everyone did. It doesn't take a rocket scienctist to fgure out that a price cut increases sales. But the problem is how long will this last? Sales are slipping back down in Japan. It could very well end up being a short lived sales increase.

When people post that the Wii has beaten the Wii in Japan, or that it has beat 360 WW (maybe not) for 3 weeks, it's not to rub it in the face of anyone, it is to explain such a turnaround.  Eight months ago, the PS3 was being outsold by a 6:1 margin in Japan.  The PS3 could barely move ten thousand units a week.  The Wii was moving 60-70k or more per week to the PS3's 10k.  The reason we post that is because now, the PS3 is FINALLY fighting back.  Winning these past three weeks does not mean anyone is a "fanboy" or anything like that, it's just that I love it when someone does something that everyone thinks is impossible.  Eight months ago if I had said, the PS3 would outsell the Wii for three weeks following the release of SMG, or that the PS3 and 360 would be going toe-to-toe WW seven weeks after Halo 3, or just after the release of AC, CoD4, Mass Effect, GHIII or Rock band, people would have thought I was sipping the juice.  But now that these things have happened, I just like to point out that even after all of the bad business decisions Sony has made and the lack of public reception for this console, it's nice to see things starting to look better.

You confused me when you said that. (I highlighted it in bold)

The 40GB PS3 is the system that should have launched. There should have been one SKU only, the 40GB version with BC. The pricepoint of this console is perfect and it has everything a gamer needs. Sure, it's not quite the "media center" that the 60 or 80GB can be, but it's a great gaming console.

If SONY had just launched this one system at this one pricepoint, we wouldn't need to get excited about SONY making a slight comeback. We would be talking about year-long PS3 shortages.

SONY missed their big chance to create worldwide hype and desire. Now they're going to be playing catchup for a few years. I still have no doubt in my mind that the PS3 will end up outselling the 360....in a few years.

However, if you're a life long Nintendo fan and you've had to put up with the trash-talking SONY fanbase for nearly 10 years, this is a great time for you (and me). That's something you SONY diehards just need to understand. It's not like you guys were the nicest competitors for that period. Even now, it doesn't seem like you've been humbled enough. When the PS2 was the big dog, all we ever heard were sales figures from the SDF. And now that the Wii is the big seller, we hear "sales don't matter, HD graphics and sound do."

Just accept the fact that Nintendo fans have something to be happy about again. We've been "underground" for ten years, buried by SONY's systems. Let us have our moment. You guys can go underground for a while. We left the light on for you ;)

My End of 2008 Hardware Predictions (console only):

Wii : 50 million

360: 28 million

PS3: 24 million

These predictions were made on January 3rd and won't be revised

Welcome to the Console Warz, DJMeisterJ. Sadly, anything you say about a console will be misinterpreted.

There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.

It does strike me as somewhat odd that many of Vgchartz' users DON'T want competition! You make some fine points DMeisterJ, this is what I've been waiting for all along before I get me a PS3 myself.
I don't want Nintendo, Sony or MS to win by a 50-100 million console margin, that's not good for me as a consumer, but Sony HAS given me a lot of unforgetable good times with their machines and I'm behind them most of all.

If it helps, I did make a thread asking people how much BC mattered to their previous consoles. Most replies were "I got a PS2 at launch and played my old PS1 games + a few PS2 launch games for about a year. Then I only played PS2 games...and this one PS1 classic."

So yeah, I wasn't too surprised.

It is nice to see things turn around for the PS3, I do hope it keeps it's head above water long enough to attract some good quality games.

But you see, it's because of the 40Gig model, which obviously was going to cause a spike in sales, all the Wii needs now is colours to dominate hard again in the same way the DS did to retake it's week by week sales lead over PSP.

Im not shure that just a simple colour change would do that much ... now a built-in DVD player and HDD could deffinatly help a lot;)

And I agree with topic poster ... Sony did , what Sega couldent do ... turn things around , in a good way :)
