Gotta love Sony fans.. If PS3 sales aren't doing so hot, it must be supply constrained! Are people still going to be using this excuse in August?

Let's ignore the fact that both models have been readily available on amazon for several weeks now..

I think some people just refuse to believe that the post pricecut+slimline boost would ever decline back down to earth.

Gamestop quarterly results conference call "PS3 out of stock 80% of time"

Just saying...

To quot sum1:

Gotta love Microsoft/nintendo fans.. If PS3 sales are back to normal (120-150k week) it's BAD! but when ps3 sales are doing so HOT it still not good! Are people still going to do excuse all the time?

Ok.. Let's look at the evidence... As I said, PS3s are in stock at amazon.com. Go and check now it you like. I'll repeat that.. They are available at amazon. Right now.. And has been for several weeks. Meaning as of right now, I could get myself a PS3 if I wanted, with the click of a button. And so could anyone with internet access.

Second, only 45,000 were sold this week. Do you really think Sony could only supply roughly 45,000 to the entire USA in a week? This is especially absurd to believe when you consider that Sony has sold almost double that amount in recent months.. So why the drastic decline in units shipped? How could Sony possibly go from shipping 90,000 per week earlier in the year, to suddenly 45,000? They may be limited a bit more from the shifting to new models, but there's no way they would only be able to ship less than 50,000 a week.

The excuses of PS3 being out of stock was a bit of a stretch back in March and April, but now it's just getting downright comical.

If there are shortages of PS3s, then Sony REALLY needs to get on the ball, becuase only shipping roughly 45,000 is a beyond terrible effort on their part.

Because Amazon.com has always been a reliable source for whether there are shortages on a marketplace or not. While of course, a retailer that deals exclusively with games is obviously lying about having shortages. Seriously, there was a thread 1 month ago that said they were sold out on amazon.com. Amazon isn't reliable to say something is sold out on because they compile many businesses and send you in that companies direction. One of those companies is bound to have gotten a shipment in some point during the day.

Point is, ANYONE who wants a PS3, and has internet access, can buy one right now, new, for $300 on amazon, without waiting long for it to ship. If someone can readilly buy one at their convenience, at the usual price, that's NOT exactly a shortage is it.. Back in 06-08 when you litterally COULD NOT buy a Wii in America for several weeks at a time (at least at the normal price, or waiting in line at 6 in the morning), THAT was a shortage.

Sure, supply may be limited somewhat, but it's not out of stock like people are making it sound. Some stores may not have them in at certain times, but that shouldn't PREVENT anyone from buying PS3s, as there are still plent of stores that DO have them including online retailers. Most people who want a PS3 bad enough right now, could probably find one, period. They may have to search a bit harder than usual, but that shouldn't deter most people from buying one.

Ehm, yes i do. Heard anything from a thing that is called "just in time" production? It's holiday season and there is a lower demand for Consoles = lower production+change to new SCU's. And there can be many other problems, i.e. transportation.

Oh and Amazon gets the PS3s from target.com. I used there the "Find it at a Target store" and used a few zip codes. Over 80 to 90% of the stores don't have PS3s in their shelves and not everyone buy goods in the Internet. The supply is definitley better than in the last months, but not good enough for full availability.

Considering the PS3 is the highest hardware on Amazon that seems to be what people are doing.  Amazon simply isn't that big a retailer.  If every wal-mart, target, and gamestop is sold out Amazon can't make up those sales.  (looking around it seems the PS3 is sold out at most targets in major cities.)

PSP2 Is looking like a much bigger reality, at least for the US. I'm sure they would gobble it up in Japan as long as a Monster Hunter is out with it.

It's just that simple.

Wii continues disappoint me...Black version increased sales in UK by 70% when it was launched, no US love for it? I would run out and buy one if I didn't have already a white Wii. I'm even more sure Wii will be down this year, but the 18m projected by Nintendo are possible...a lot depends on Japan though.

Don't count the Wii out yet; it may yet top 2009 once the big guns like Wii Relax/Party, Galaxy 2/Other M, and possibly Zelda hit.

It's last big hardware pusher was NSMBWii 6 months ago; naturally that momentum has slowed some.

I know the problem is games and that the games you listed will sell systems. I also would add RPGs in Japan (especially Dragon Quest X, which will realease next year). But the problem is: what can Nintendo do to keep the Wii selling? They can't do what third parties aren't doing! Galaxy 2 will sell 10 millions, hopefully also Zelda (mainly because they want to sell it to new people), other M can easily become the best selling Metroid game ever. Wii Realex and Wii Party maybe can bis the success of Wii Play and Fit...but will it be enough? Wii is down every week, and the fault is of third parties (then we can discuss how Nintendo failed in increasing third party support), especially in Japan.

Wii was up in January, down in February (supply problems), flat in March, and then in April a bit down, this month looks to be down...Galaxy week won't be that well (220k max) and then we have to wait for what?

The main problem to me looks the last part of year: last year Wii had a price cut and 3 great million sellers, this year IMO they can be flat just with another price cut and releasing 4 big games all along Christmas time (Wii Party, Relax, Zelda and possibly a game big in Japan).

All this is just my opinion, I will be the happiest person ever to see Wii being up YoY, and I know we've to wait for E3 to make assumptions but things are worrying me, the Wii is the console with the most strange sales ever.

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

I think the only thing comical in this thread is the fact you don't believe the PS3 is constrained in America. Even I thought Sony would've solved the supply issues by now, but apparently they haven't according to GameStop. One would think, them being one of the biggest gaming retailers around, they'd know whether or not a console is facing issues, and they confirmed it, saying t was out of stock over 80% of the time. Stop trying to put a spin on everything, stop speculating, because your speculation does not equal evidence, at most, it's pure ignorance.

Can I get a PS3 on Amazon, but does everyone buy consoles on the internet now? No. So please, think before you post. -___-
