Forums - General - Everybody Draw Muhammad Day...How do you feel about it?

On the bright side, some amazing artists could be discovered!

And then they'll have to go into hiding!

I did it last night, I'll upload the video of me doing it later today. I want to make perfectly clear though that I did not do this to antagonise Muslims. I am doing this because there is a small minority of people who are insisting on infringing on my right to draw Mohammad.

Basically, I don't want to stick my middle finger up to Islam, but to those who infringe on my rights.

I'll gather that 90% of the people who draw Muhammed are probably trolls who believe they're Rosa Parks esque defenders of freedom while advocating for all Arabs to be put in camps.

Absolutely support moves like this.

Other religious figures are viable targets in art and entertainment and Muhammed should be aswell.

If drawing a picture of Muhammed is illegal in the Islamic faith then the only people in the world who shouldn't draw pictures of him are hardcore Muslims. Everyone that isn't religious or are of another faith or aren't hardcore Muslims should be allowed to draw pictures of the prophet without fear of death or reprisal beyond other counterattacks through free speech means.

If this causes threats then it highlights my points. People who threaten other peoples lives over things like this shouldn't get there way.

I agree with this completely. But, would you do it if you knew your life could be at risk through threats?

Well I work in the film industry. So if I were to attack Islam I'd do it through film, and yes in theory I would. I'm not really interested in attacking religion in my own art at this point in time though, but if I got a job working on a film that was I would definetely say yes to the job if the criticism was valid and well thought out.

Well, I certainly don't...

As SciFiBoy said "unsubstantiated claim is unsubstantiated".

Neither for or against it, it's people choice to do it, just like it's people choice to be offended if it does offend them.

Although what I don't understand is why people might take offence to an image that depicts any religious figure in a positive light. If I drew an image of him in a way that signified my admiration of him and how he bought people together and what he stands for in the religion, would it offend people just because it's drawn in the first place?

Hmm, pie.

That's hillarious. Great idea.

Forbidding the whole world the freedom of speech just shows how much of extremists these people are.

I'd say let's show them. We won't be intimidated by their pathetic attempts to scare us off.

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

What I find hilarious about the South Park situation is that a couple of years prior to the caricature scandal, there was a South Park episode (The Super Best Friends) where Muhammad was represented along with important figures of other religions and nobody cared about it.

This is the internet. Trolls don't need substantiation if there's a possibility to cause offense on the internet they will be there and in force.
